The Pikes Peak Computer Genealogists was founded by Mid Kolstad and Ruth Christian over 25 years ago.

Sadly, Mid passed away October 30, 2007. We will miss her; she was a wonderful friend to all of us.

In Memory of Mid Kolstad, 1915-2007

During the Spring of 1982, a group of genealogists in Colorado Springs met to discuss using the computer to record family facts. The purpose was to share expertise in both computer and genealogy procedures. By becoming friends, the participants felt free to ask questions at meetings, and in the interim. A feature of the meetings was the “round-the-room” discussions by each visitor in turn. The other main feature was the tasty refreshments provided by taking turns.

Some successive past presidents of the PPCG have been: Warren Weikhorst, Jan Knox, Kirt Bailey, Dortha Sanderson, and Russ Eacker.

The Pikes Peak Genealogical Society agreed in a letter dated 20 May 1984 “The Executive Board recommends that the Pikes Peak Genealogical Society, Inc. adopt a policy to sponsor, on a trial basis for one year, the Genealogy Computer Study Group.”

Membership dues started as $5 per year, then in 1985 went to $7 per household per year and in 1992 dues changed to $10 per year.

Originally, the group met at the members’ homes in the morning. When membership reached 24 in 1985 a public community room was sought. The location of meetings was Otero Savings and Loan until ???, then Falcon Estates Police Station, later Rustic Hills Mall South, and then the Penrose Public Library downtown.

The name was changed to the Pikes Peak Computer Genealogists in November of 1990.
