Translation from Dollendorf/Eifel by Hermann
Bungartz
The emigrants from the middle Eifel first favored settlement in the states of Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin. After 1860, they came to Minnesota and in the 70's to Nebraska and Kansas and to the Pacific. The peak of the emigration was in the years 1842, 1845, 1852, 1868, 1872 and 1881.
In the "Marriage book" of the Dollendorf parish is found the following entry: "today on May 9, 1945, Joseph Pick and Anna Stils, his wife, with their five children - and Peter Mies and his wife, Catharina Juli with their two children emigrated to America. On April 27, Xaverius Reinartz with his wife Brigida Heinen and three children, Peter Arimont, widower, who left his 5 yr old child behind here and Christian Reetz from Gentges house, unmarried had previously left, but must wait until May 15 while Xaverius Reinartz returns to Dollendorf and today on May 9, again with Joseph Pick and Peter Mies and their families traveled to Antwerp, where they all on the 15th of this month board a ship for the trip.""
In the "Emigration Act" of the Kreis Schleiden in the main archives in Düsseldorf it says that Joseph Pick in the year of emigration was 40 yrs old, his wife Anna Stils from Lahmen was 34, the children were 11, 9, 5, and 3 yrs old. Peter Mies was 33, his wife who was born in Betteldorf (house), Catharina Juli was 32 and the children were 6, 4 and 2 yrs old. Contrary to the entry in the "marriage book", the couple Mies took not two but three children with them to America. The carpenter Xaver Reinartz was at the time of emigration 37, and his wife, Brigida Heinen, 39, and the children were 11, 8, and 3 yrs old. Peter Arimont was formerly married to Anna Gudula Strappens from Schreiners house in the Lindenstrasse. She died after only 2 yrs of marriage. In the death records of 1838, it is recorded that Jacob Arimont with his wife Elisabeth Bläser and 3 sons came from Prüm in 1828 and built themselves a house, probably the house Loogh under Geßges.
Under the Düsseldorf Emigration Act, Peter Rheintges (26 yrs) of Dollendorf, from the old Leuwer house, son of Johann Rheintges and Brigitta Leuwer, along with Johann Werner Mies (33yrs), son of Peter Mies and his wife Maria, had applied to emigrate to America in 1842. While Johann Werner Mies from Ramers probably didn't emigrate or later came back (he died in 1889 in Dollendorf), the bricklayer, Peter Reintges went to North America in 1852. He took with him his wife, Maria Eva Hutsch (b. 1824) from the Hutschen house and his one yr old daughter Susanna. According to an entry in the ....
Peter Giefer and Maria Eva Mahlberg (date unknown) emigrated to America.
