The Donna Holt Siemiatkoski Acquisition Fund

Donna Holt Siemiatkoski contributed so much to the field of genealogy, and we in CPGC have been grateful that she provided us with leadership for those formative first years. Donna died from cancer on August 6, 2001. She had been such a tireless and creative worker, and what she was able to accomplish will remain as a lasting legacy for those of us fortunate to have known her and for future genealogists.

On Saturday, July 21, 2001, members of the Connecticut Professional Genealogists Council met in East Hartford at Jack Kuras’ home for our annual picnic. At that meeting we voted to establish a permanent acquisition fund in honor of Donna, a founding member and CPGC’s first president.

The purpose of this permanent fund is to purchase genealogical materials and to donate them to area repositories such as the Connecticut State Library, and others. On Tuesday, July 24th, vice president Dianne Lenti and president Bob Rafford visited Donna at her home to tell her of the establishment of this Fund and to present her with a certificate announcing the fund in her honor. She was truly touched and honored by this legacy established by her friends and colleagues.

Now that she has left us, the Fund will remain as a lasting tribute to her memory. We know many of you will welcome the opportunity to send contributions to this fund, so we invite all her friends and colleagues in the genealogical community and elsewhere to donate to the Donna Holt Siemiatkoski Acquisition Fund in Donna’s memory. These funds are entirely separate from other funds in CPGC and will be used exclusively for the purposes of acquisition and donation of genealogical materials.

Your contributions will help support the libraries and repositories that Donna cared about so much. Checks may be made payable to “CPGC.” Please mark your checks for the DHS Fund and send them to CPGC at CPGC, P.O. Box 4273, Hartford, Connecticut 06147-4273. The Connecticut Professional Genealogists Council, Inc., is a 501 (c)(3) tax exempt organization under United States and Connecticut tax laws. Contributions are deductible to the full extent of the law.

The Donna Hold Siemiatkoski Acquisition Fund is an “umbrella” fund for the collection and distribution of genealogical materials to area libraries. Janet Wallace serves as chairperson of the committee that oversees this Fund. Members Barbara Jean Mathews, CG, Kathryn Smith Black and Richard C. Roberts have done an outstanding job of guiding this Fund. Anyone may contribute money to CPGC at any time, either in honor or memory of a person or just as a contribution to the well-being of genealogical resources.
