INDEX OF AMERICAN INDIANS WHO

ACCORDING TO FAMILY TRADITIONS, MARRIED BOOKOUTS

Note: The following list is from family stories only and needs documentation!

In parenthesis after the entry is the contributor of the story and which son of Joseph Bookout 1 the marrying Bookout descends from. Unless otherwise noted, wife is said to have been full-blooded.

It is interesting that all stories emanate from the line of sons of John, son of Joseph Bookout 1:

Wright, son of John, lived in Cherokee Co., GA for a while, which Edwin Hunter of Marietta, GA said was reserved for Indians and "closed to the white man." This area in n.w. GA was part of the ancestral home of the Cherokee.

Wright, who married a Cherokee, was murdered in Kansas purportedly because of Indian sympathies. His descendant in Pleasantville, Evelyn Rose Bookout, considers herself an Indian.

William E. Bookout also lived in Cherokee Co., GA.
