I've noticed an increase in subscribers to this mailing list, so now
would be a good time for everyone to list their Russell lines and
locations for the newcomers. Santa was keeping the elves busy down
at
the computer workshop. ;)
A little history on this list.... it started as a Russell E-mail
Newsletter over three years ago, and then on to this mailing list,
which
has grown to 478 subscribers (as of today).
One item of interest is that many subscribers have described having
the
"Russell little finger", that is crooked at the big knuckle. Another
is
that a new list is being set up to cover the Russells in the UK, called
RUSSELL-UK-L@rootsweb.com. That should be announced soon, if it hasn't
already. Thanks!
I would like to invite each of you to post any materials you might have
on file.. things that you have collected over the years in your
research. Maybe you have transcribed wills, a listing of Russell
marriages in different counties or states, a listing of Russells on
census records, etc.
I've started a census breakdown for Russells:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~lindakay/russell/russ50va.htm - 1850 Census
http://www.rootsweb.com/~lindakay/russell/russ60.htm - 1860 Census
At the bottom of every message that comes through to subscribers, you
will find link to personal RUSSELL research webpages. Please let me
know
if you have a webpage dedicated to your line, and I'll add it to the
"tagline."
This mailing list is searchable. Point your browser to:
http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl
and type in:
RUSSELL
The search engine covers 1996-1998, which includes the original mailing
list at Indiana University (Maiser) before a spam mail crashed that
server and the majority of the lists moved to Rootsweb.
While I'm at it, I would like to suggest that you help support all the
free genealogy services provided by Rootsweb. They provide over four
thousand free mailing lists, in addition to free space (unlimitged)
for
the USGenWeb Archives (over one gig of data available in addition to
actual census images being uploaded)
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb ,
free space for The USGenWeb Project's state and county pages, etc.
etc.
Suggested memberships are $12 or $24 a year and are what supports all
the free services.

I hope everyone has a great 1999! And I really hope I find the parents
of my Mathew Russell and Nancy Barnes of Brunswick and Lunenburg County,
VA. <g>
