Chapter Meetings are typically held on the third Saturday of the month, September through May, at 10 am. Meetings consist of opening ceremonies, a speaker or tour, and a short business meeting.

Speakers and tours cover a broad spectrum of topics in support of DAR’s mission to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism.

HISTORY - The chapter enjoyed a proper tea after learning about the history of tea from our speaker. As one could imagine, drinking tea became very unpopular after the Boston Tea Party in 1773.
NATIONAL DEFENSE - Every year we have at least one program on National Defense. These programs span a broad range of topics. Recent meetings have included learning the significance of the Battle of Midway from a retired Rear Admiral, touring the Cryptologic Museum, and learning first hand from a USAF Staff Sergeant about her experiences in Iraq.
CONSERVATION – The president of the Anacostia Watershed Society provided insight into the efforts being made to clean the Anacostia River and what we can do to help.
AMERICANISM – We learned from an Alexandria, Virginia, Election Official about the "Help American Vote Act" and how Alexandria was dealing with electronic voting on the eve of the 2004 Presidential election.
DAR – "All things DAR" is one of our recurring meetings typically held in January. At the meeting we learn about various aspects of DAR in greater detail. Topics have included the DAR Schools, navigating DAR’s website, insignia, and volunteering opportunities.

AMERICAN INDIANS –  Over the years we have had several Native Americans from a variety of tribes speak to our chapter about their history and culture. Recently the chapter visited one of the 9/11 totem poles located at Congressional Cemetery in Washington, DC. The totem is one of three healing poles that were carved by the Lummi tribe of northwest Washington in commemoration of the attack on September 11, 2001.

HISTORIC PRESERVATION – One of our National Society's objectives is historic preservation, whether that is through marking the graves of Revolutionary War patriots, commemorating historic events or learning to care for our heirlooms. Recently our chapter had the honor of hosting one of the museum curators from our National Society's Museum. He shared with us tips on caring for our family heirlooms.
TOURS – Typically the chapter will make a fall pilgrimage to a historic site of interest.  Two of our recent tours have included a visit to the Rising Sun Inn (circa 1753), a haunted tavern maintained by  Ann Arundel Chapter, MDDAR, and a tour of George Washington's Birthplace in Colonial Beach, VA.

ENTERTAINING THE STATE OFFICERS

ENTERTAINING – Every two years the Eleanor Wilson Chapter is honored to entertain the District of Columbia State Officers at one of our chapter meetings.

CELEBRATING LIFE'S MILESTONES TOGETHER

DAR MEMBERSHIP – In addition to welcoming new members at a recent meeting, we also celebrated two members' 40th and 50th anniversaries of DAR membership.
BIRTHDAYS – Only a few of us will reach ninety. Recently, the chapter celebrated a beloved member's ninetieth birthday.
LIFE'S OTHER MILESTONES – There is always cause to celebrate. With breathless anticipation, we celebrated the pregnancies of two of our members. Sharing in one another's celebrations and accomplishments is just part of being an Eleanor.

STATE CONFERENCE – State Conference is a time for chapter members to gather together to celebrate our accomplishments over the year.
FALL BRIEFING  – Every year our State organization holds a Fall Briefing to present the plans and goals of the coming year. For the last several years, chapter members have enjoyed an informal picnic after the briefing to kick off our chapter year.
CONSTITUTION SERVICE  –  Every year Eleanors take part in the State's Constitution Week Service in September.
STATE LUNCHEONS  – Throughout the year, Eleanors attend a variety of State sponsored luncheons including George Washington's Birthday Luncheon and the Fall Fashion Show.

CONTINENTAL CONGRESS – Every year members of Eleanor Wilson Chapter participate in the festivities and business meetings held during our national convention, Continental Congress.
DAR'S CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE – Chapter members enjoying a visit with Santa along with viewing the decorated period rooms during our National Society's Annual Christmas Open House.
AMERICA'S INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE – Members of Eleanor Wilson Chapter have participated along with other Daughters across the country in wearing an American Flag down Constitution Avenue in Washington, DC on the Fourth of July.
