McVoy and apparently they had 4 known children: Martin Nathaniel McVoy,
Ada Mcvoy Hutchins, Josephine McVoy, and Eulalia McVoy. Martin Nathaniel McVoy #2 was my paternal grandpa. He married Margaret Julia Suite of Golden Beach, St.Mary's Co.MD. Martin McVoy #2 was born MD in 1888 and died Wash.DC 1961 and was a retired horticulturist for the US Dept.of Agriculture in DC. He lived in the Anacostia area of DC for 35 years prior to his death. His sister, Ada McVoy Hutchins, 1891-1975 lived in Calvert Co., MD and ran a small post office next to a store. His other 2 sisters: Josephine McVoy & Eulalia McVoy, I have absolutely no info. on either. I have never even known they existed until last week when a note in a Christmas card from my cousin told me their names. My grandpa, Martin McVoy only had one eye and the other was glass. Some family members think it may have been due to cataracts, but no one knows for sure. Also, in our McVoy line, there is family lore of a set of triplets somewhere in my grandpa's family. Does anyone have any knowledge of this family? The 1st Martin from Spanish Florida, fought in the Union 1st MD Cavalry, Co.A, 2nd Sgt.(Source: Broadfoots Union Roster PA/Wash DC/MD). I am looking for anyone with knowledge of the family of William Randall (b.1819 in VA). He moved to Wash.DC in about 1850. He had a wife named Marissa (b.1822 in VA). William was a bricklayer by trade (1860 Census 7th ward). They had the following children in 1860: Isabella (b.1843 in VA); Morgan (b.1851 in DC); Melvina (b.1853 in DC); Martina (b.1856 in DC); and Charles H. (b.1859 in DC). Family legend said that these people were "Kecoughtan Indians whose family came from the Hampton, VA area". No race was listed in the census. I am looking for their descendants. Melvina was my gr.grandmother who married Alpheus W. Clear in 1868 in Wash. I can't find any records of these Randalls after the 1860 census. I am also looking for anyone who may have Randall ancestors from the Hampton, VA area who may know of this family. The women all have unusual Spanish-sounding given names. |

I have been searching for my father's long-lost relatives. My father, MIllard F. Steele, Jr. was born in Wash.DC 10/12/14 to Millard F. Steele, Sr., and Catherine Stieren. Millard F. Steele, Sr.'s parents were George M. Steele, Sr. and Georgie A. Steele. Shortly after my father's birth, my grandparents separated and my grandmother brought my father back to St.Paul, Mn. Consequently, my father never knew his father and only has a few letters from his grandfather, George M. Steele, Sr. His grandparents moved from Washington, DC to Philadelphia, PA where George Sr. was living in 1930. George M. Steele, Sr. and his wife Georgie had 4 children: George M. Jr., Elsie C. (Roche), Marie F. (Stuaffer), and my grandfather Millard F. Sr. Once his grandfather passed away, my father had no further contact from the Steele family. This is a big blank for me and I have been longing to fill it. I have been trying to find a link somewhere with my past for the past couple of years. If any of this means anything to anyone out there, I would be forever greatful! |

I am currently researching my mother's family in DC. She and her siblings, as well as her father were all born in DC. Her maiden name was Margaret Sullivan (1910-1980)--it was also her married name as she married a Sullivan. Her father was Patrick Joseph Sullivan (1875-1936?) of the DC Fire Dept. His father was Michael Sullivan, although I don't think he was born in DC, he certainly lived there. The family originally lived in Foggy Bottom but moved to Georgetown around 1900--29th and Q Streets. All deceased. Thanks. |
