CAREY, CARY posted by Helen Carey on Monday, April 9, 2007

Although I have information to share about the ancestry of Zachariah CAREY / CARY, I hope to learn the names of the children and wife of Zachariah CAREY, Sussex Co., Delaware. He was born to Ebenezer and Hannah CARY between 1770 - 1780; it appears that he died between 1830 and 1840. I have located Zachariah’s household in Dagsboro Hundred in 1800 and 1810; in Nanticoke Hundred in 1820 and 1830. Zachariah’s wife’s name is not known; she was born and died within the same time range as Zachariah. According to the 1820 census in his household Zachariah had 1 ‘free white male’ born between 1802 and 1804; 3 born between 1804 and 1810; 1 born between 1810 and 1820; and 1 ‘free white female’ born between 1794 and 1806. I hope to hear from someone who can provide names and specific birth information for Zachariah CAREY/CARY's children as well as the name of his wife! I will be glad to share what I know about his ancestry!

MCCABE, MURRAY posted by Annette Hoffman on Monday, May 21, 2007

Looking for further information on the Severn Handy MURRAY and wife, Nancy MCCABE MURRAY family. Was told she was buried in the Joe Long Cemetery, but have not found any record of it. However, I did find on your site her listed in the Rural Selbyville Cemetery, at Selbyville, Baltimore Hundred, Sussex County, Delaware. Unfortunately, her dates must be incorrect. It reads, "Nancy, wife of Severn Murray, died 1874, age 81. born 1873". Also, I just printed out information from ancestory.com's Delaware Marriages, 1645-1899 and it gives their marriage date as: 1 Jan 1845. I have not found any information that he had more than one wife, but the oldest child was born in 1811. The death date I've found for Severn was in 1840. Any insights would be welcome!

HOPKINS posted by Joseph Lake on Saturday, August 18, 2007

Researching John HOPKINS, Revolutionary War Soldier in the Sussex Co. DE company of Capt. William Peery. (William Peery witnessed the will of John Hopkins). The will was made and signed on 25 Feb 1787 and witnessed also by Mary Peery and Joseph Miller. John Hopkins had 3 wives: Sophia McIlvain (3rd); Hessie Stephenson and Mary Vint. 9 sons named Josiah, David, Samuel, Cornelius, Lemuel, Archibald, John, William and Robert. Daughters: Elizabeth Stephenson, wife of David, Jannet, wife of Samuel Hudson, and Lydia Hopkins. Father of John: Archibald. According to the will John had some 500 acres of land, some of which was probably near Cool Springs. At least two of his sons emigrated to Pickaway Co, Ohio (John (before 1800) and Samuel (date unknown), and probably a Grandson named James (spouse Lydia Goslee), probably a son of William, c 1810. Interested in exchanging with other researchers.
