January 1998 Queries

I tried the geoserver with no luck. I am looking for Nieberg, Germany or Schulumberg, Germany. Unfortunately my use of the German language is very limited. These two towns are probably of pre World War II origin. Both are located somewhere on the edge of the black forest. Any help you can give me would be most appreciated so I can continue my family genealogy research. All of the family members who knew anything of this part of family history have long been deceased.Jdmac10149 19 Jan 1998

I have been trying to get information on Friesenhausen, Bavaria, Germany. It is located near and has the same postal zipcode as Aidhausen, Bavaria, Germany. Neither are located on a map. I am wanting to know where theses cities are located(north, south, east, west or where in Bavaria) and was hoping to get a picture or two and a little information on Friesenhausen as that is where my ancestors were born. Nothing on the web at all on these cities. Also, do you know where I can read any information on Bavaria, like the history of Bavaria in English. Everything I go to is in German and I don't know it. PLAUMER -My name is Terry Harris. I live in Holzgerlingen near Stuttgart. I found a family tree by Stattman in the Stuttgart library. It has the names of 1,027 Pflaumers from Weissenburg in Bavaria. Some of these PLAUMERs wandered over time across Bavaria as far as Heidelberg. I am desperately looking for a connection between these PLAUMERs and my direct ancestors (700 people) from Baden and the village of Niederhofen.

Do you have any suggestions as to where I could look? I have exhausted the archives at the Pfarer houses in Niederhofen, Klien Gartach, Stetten am Heuchelberg, and Elsenz in Baden Wuerttenberg. I have also covered the Stuttgart library, The Baden Wuertemberg State Archives, the Church of the Latter Day Saints in Stuttgart, and the Evangelical Church Archives in Stuttgart. BEHRINGER / KRAPF -In the course of researching the Behringer Family German roots, I have learned that my grandfather's grandfather, Ignatz BEHRINGER, married a woman named Mary Anna KRAPF in Moosbach, Bavaria. They lived in a little farm village in Heumaden (which has been incorporated into Moosbach) in residence which is still in use today. Heumaden/Moosbach is about 8km Northeast of Loitzendorf in the Oberpalz. In 1858 Ignatz and Mary Anna and their four children emmigrated directly from Heumaden/Moosbach to Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1863, at the age of 44, Ignatz enlisted in the Union Army and fought in the Civil War. Sam Behringer 21 March 1998

BRAUN / BORNE / BON BRAUN / WELTING -Would dearly love information on my gr grandfather's roots in Germany. We are unsure of his surname, but have heard it was Braun, Borne, Von Braun, etc. He was actually born 1 Jan 1860 in the Alsace region, we think. Word of mouth information says he lived in Essen, Munich, Bavaria. Around 1876 he was in the German military and either accidentally or intentionally killed a man. His family sent him to America to avoid punishment and he went by Frank Lawrence WELTING here, WELTING being his mother's maiden name. He arrived Boston around 1876 and first lived KY, then TN. His family in Germany was supposedly well-to-do and owned a department store in Munich. His father was also said to have been a mayor of Munich, probably somewhere 1840-1900. Mom and I have searched LDS info, shiplists, city directories, Roman Catholic Church info here in USA, but no luck...PlsPls help if you can. RWD HAWG 21 March 1998

REISER / REESOR / TOTTEN / DEWEY -I am searching for information on Frederick C. REISER. According to the family Bible, he was born 5 April 1845 in "Loogzahern near Landae Konigreick, Bavaria, Germany." I've been assuming that is some sort of phonetic spelling - "Landae Konigreick" is obviously phonetic or some sort of dialect. Does anyone have any idea what the actual name of this town might be? Family folklore states that Frederick and 6 brother came from Germany to the US and split up. Many of them changed the spelling of their names (since my family pronounces "REISER" as "REESOR" I'm not sure if this is the true German spelling and the pronounciation just went awry...) Frederick ended up in Shelby County, Kentucky where he married Almira TOTTEN/DEWEY. Beth 21 March 1998

KUCHLER / KOHLMER -Paul KUCHLER married Thresa KOHLMER in about 1880. They lived in or near Lam in the state of Bavaria; their children attended the catholic school in the town of Lam. The family emigrated to the United States in 1900. I believe that their ship sailed from Hamburg and arrived at Ellis Island. They settled in Western Pennsylvania (New Castle, although I'm not certain that is correct). They operated a small brewery near Lam, but it was not successful. I have a picture of the family assembled in front of the brewery; I estimate that it was taken in about 1885. I am trying to learn something of Paul's family who remainded in or near Lam. Paul was my grandfather. Robert Kuchler 5 April 1998
