The church is in the shadow of the ruins of the castle, which has been part of a farm since late 17th C. St. Mary's consists of chancel, nave, with south aisle and north tranceptal chapel, and west tower. On the south face of the tower is mutilated sculpture of the Resurrection, probably early 11th C. The upper stage of the tower is Perp with battlements and pinnacles. The Transitional south doorway has a moulded round arch beneath a hoodmould carved with inverted crockets, and has jamb shafts with crocket capitals. The church was partly rebuilt in 1844-45 by Lewis Vulliamy. The church has an impressive south arcade of three double-chamfered pointed arches on tall cylindrical piers. These piers have early stiff-leaf or trumpet-scallop capitals. The nave has an ingenious hammerbeam truss roof. There is stained glass in the church by Powells, 1925; and Joseph Bell & Son, 1925. The font is a plain octagonal bowl chamfered on to an octagonal pedestal. It is set in a sunken portion of the south aisle.
