St. Mary's is the parish church and the only medieval church in the town. It was a possession of Cirencester Abbey until the Dissolution. It is cruciform in plan and has a central tower with an early 14th C broach spire. Within the church there is a nave, north and south aisles. The arcades are four-bay with early 14th C octagonal piers. The stonework tracery of the fine rose window is also early 14th C. The chancel was extended in the 14th C. There is stained glass in the church mainly by Lavers, Barraud & Westlake but also by Heaton & Butler, Clayton & Bell, Hardman, Joseph Bell, and Burlison & Grylls. The rose-window glass is by Wailes, 1876.
