St. Peter's by J.L. Pearson was built of golden local stone 1859-63. It has a compact cruciform plan. The church consists of chancel, nave, short transepts, north vestry, south porch, and central tower. The style of this tower is Early French Geometrical and it has a pyramidal spire and a north-west stair turret with a conical cap. The church has some Norman stonework, from the church that previously stood on this site, and keeled shafts and foliage capitals have been incorporated into the south doorway. There is a rose window in the north transept. The roofs are cedar; the pews and choir stalls of carved oak. The floors are paved with Maw's tiles in mosaic patterns. There is a decagonal stone font with foliage bands on short marble pillars. The stained glass in the church is by Clayton & Bell. In the churchyard there is a fine Coade-stone monument over Warren Hastings' grave. There is a lychgate by Pearson. Ê
