St. Mary the Virgin's church used to be called St Peter's in the 14th C; and the tower still retains this earlier dedication. The lower stages of this west tower are 13th C and the top stage 15th C with battlements and gargoyles. The four-bay arcade in the church has octagonal piers and ballflower on a bandcourse round each capital. The font is a Norman tub-shaped bowl on a chamfered rectangular plinth. There is stained glass in the church by Hardman circa 1850; A. Gibbs 1859; and G Hedgeland 1852.
