GRASS STREWING. Shenington is one of the very few churches where grass is strewn annually. This takes place on the Saturday before Whitsunday, with the grass remaining in the church for three weeks. The custom was mentioned in 1720, and was noted by a visitor in 1778. There is no special ceremony connected with it. It is said that a piece of ground near Kinwell Lane in the village was given to provide grass for this purpose. This land is now used for Church allotments, and the grass comes from the churchyard.RECTORS OF SHENINGTON
