|My name is D. Ben DeSmidt. I
live in New York City with my wife Debbie, who is next to
me in the photograph. We are both working on
degrees at Columbia University. Most of my
immediate family moved lives in Wisconsin.
I am just starting to research my family's background. My mother's family was originally from Cornwall. On the HARRIS side of her ancestry, her ggrandfather Thomas HARRIS (b. 6/10/1837) and her gggrandfather Harry HARRIS were from St. Austell parish. Thomas HARRIS was married (m. 1864) to Mary PUGH, the daughter of William PEW (d. 1/30/1892) and Elizabeth PAYNTER. I believe that they were of the same parish. I have photos of them all except for Harry HARRIS.
On the JENKINS side of her family, her ggrandfather Joseph JENKINS (b. 1836, d. 5/6/1897) married Eleanor ROBERTS (b. 5/2/1847, d. July 1931). Eleanor ROBERTS' mother seems to have had the surname TREGONING. Before emigrating and settling in Michigan, USA, they lived at or near Helston. One son and one daughter of Joseph and Eleanor made a visit to this area in Cornwall and spent two months there in 1903. I have photographs of them including possibly a TREGONING Aunt or possible Eleanor's mother.
