My hobbies include caravanning in France & Spain, sailing & golf. I am a dowser or water diviner & still get called out to find water beneath the ground here in Cornwall, and there is plenty of it!!! I spend most of my time surfing the net & researching for myself & others.
I first became interested in genealogy when I was attending a funeral at Maker Church in East Cornwall, I saw a gravestone with my name on it JOHN DOWNING, fortunately for me he died in 1763! In the 25 years ending in 1800, DOWNING marriages were recorded in at least 25 Cornish parishes, as well as abroad, so we have a large family.
I was lucky enough to find through this page a US cousin whose great grandfather was my direct descendant William Petherick Downing who emigrated from Morwenstow to New York in 1873 together with his wife. They had 12 children & today the Downing family hold an annual reunion in Vermont.
