| 30-Apr | 1823 | Thomas | WILKS | 60 | Tablet W. wall of S. transept |
To the memory of Lieut. Thomas Wilks of the Royal Navy, many years signal
officer at St Anthony's Head, who died April 30th 1823 aged 60 years. To the
uniform zeal in the discharge of his public duties, which ever distinguished
him, he manifested those social virtues which endeared him to his family and
prompted them as a last grateful tribute, to record his amiable qualities as
a dutiful son and a benevolent brother in his general intercourse with
society. He illustrated the saying of the poet, that "an honest man is the
noblest work of God." |
