Mrs MONTAGU patiently resigned her meritorious life, at a

DEATHS – Suddenly, on Monday morning last, at their house near the
Green Man Turnpike, Kent Road, Mrs ROLLS, the lady of John
ROLLS, Esq, one of the Magistrates for the county of Surrey.
The effect on Mr ROLLS was such, that he languished under an
apparent despondency until Tuesday afternoon, about five o’clock,
when he expired. They both lie in the same house for interment;
and the son and daughter are dangerously ill from the shock they
have felt on the unfortunate occasion.

DEATHS – At Milton, Kent, Captain DELANGE, late of the ‘Ann’
sloop of war. He was ad-Lieutenant of the ‘Repulse’ during the
mutiny at Nore, and it was by his exertion that she was detached
from the mutinous ships, after sustaining a heavy fire from two
74’s. On this occasion, Captain DELANGE lost a leg.

NEWS - A few days’ since, the Gardener of Thomas
MAY, Esq, of Littleburn Court, Kent, incautiously threw the
clippings of a yew tree into the farm-yard, which were soon devoured
by the hogs, and in the course of a few hours, 32 of them dropped
down dead. This is inserted merely as a caution to those who are
ignorant of the poisonous quality of the yew tree.

Richard rose from the humble situation of a Journeyman Bricklayer,
by his industry and good qualities, to the rank of Sheriff for the
county of Middlesex, and city of London, and has left a very ample
fortune behind him.
Saturday, 17 November 1804, Caledonian Mercury 12979 –
DEATHS – At the end of last month, was lost on board his Majesty’s
ship ‘Glatton’, off the Texel, Mr Henry CHAMBERS, a
midshipman belonging to that ship, in the 15th year of
his age, and the eldest son of Sir Samuel CHAMBERS, of Updown,
Kent. He was last seen in the evening of the 25th
ultimate, and it is conjectured he fell overboard.

9th regiment of foot; only son of David BETSON,

Thursday, 15 August 1805, Caledonian Mercury 13095 –
DEATHS – At her house in Grosvenor Square, London, on Friday
afternoon at four o’clock, the very amiable and beautiful
Viscountess SYDNEY, was delivered of a son and heir, to the
great joy of that noble family; which, with much concern we state,
was too soon changed into the most poignant sorrow, for, at seven in
the evening, she died. This Lady was wife to the Right Hon. John
Thomas TOWNSEND, Viscount Sydney, of Chislehurst, Kent, and
was married in May 1802. She had been Lady Caroline CLEMENTS,
youngest daughter of the late Earl of Leitrim, by Lady Elizabeth
SKEFFINGTON, daughter of the fourth Viscount, and first Earl of
Maffarene. This very amiable woman, the present Dowager Countess of
Leitrim, has, in the short space of 13 months, lost the best of
husbands, her venerable and respected mother, her brother, the late
Earl of Maffarene, her beautiful niece, Mrs MILNER, and now
her beloved and amiable daughter.

VILLIERS, Earl of Jersey, Viscount Villiers of Dartford, and

Lordship was in his 71st year.
Monday, 9 September 1805, Hampshire Telegraph 309 –
NEWS – On Friday se’nnight, as Mr ROBINSON, of Sydenham, in
Kent, was returning home from town in a one-horse chaise, on his
arriving at New Cross Turnpike on the Deptford Road, his horse took
fright, and ran with great fury for a considerable distance. Mr
ROBINSON at length leaped out of the chaise, and broke his leg
in three places. He was immediately, by his own desire, conveyed to
his house in Sydenham.

evident marks of the service they have been engaged in, and are but
sorrily clothed, many being without stockings, and with caps made up
of old garments, that do not above half cover their heads.

SINGULAR GENEALOGY – All the persons named in the following
genealogy were living at Faversham, in Kent, in 1760, excepting only
the former wife of the eldest CASHICK. Old HARWOOD
had two daughters by his first wife, of which the oldest was married
to John CASHICK, the son, the youngest to John CASHICK,
the father. CASHICK, the father, had a daughter by his first
wife, whom Old HARWOOD married, and by her had a son.
Therefore, CASHICK’s second wife could say:- “My father is
my won, and I am my mother’s mother; my sister is my daughter, and
I am grand-mother to my brother.”

DEATHS – On the 12th ultimate at the College of Wye, in
Kent, in the 83d year of his age, the Rev Philip PARSONS,
M.A., upwards of 50 years Minister of that parish, Rector of Suave
and Eastwell, in the same county, and formerly of Sidney College,
Cambridge, and the author of many ingenious publications. He was
intimately acquainted with Miss SEWARD, Mr PRATT, and
other literary characters, with whom he maintained a correspondence
till within a short period of his death, and he died as he lived,
with the piety and resignation of a Christian.

Suddenly, Mr H. SAXBY, of Harding-Common, Kent, aged 61
years.
Thursday, 4 March 1813, Derby Mercury 4216 –
ASSIZES – At the last Assizes for the County of Kent, one Wm HALL,
a fisherman at Folkestone, was convicted before Lord Chief Justice
ELLENBOROUGH, upon an indictment charging him with furnishing
a boat to three French prisoners, who had broken their parole from
Ashbourne, in this county, to enable them to cross the Channel; and
for this offence HALL was, in the following Michaelmas Term,
sentenced by the Court of the King’s Bench to 2 years’ imprisonment,
and to pay a fine of 50/-. These prisoners had travelled in
post-chaise from Ashbourne, and the post-boy, John EDWARDS,
who had driven them to Folkestone from the Royal Oak at Ashford,
kept by one James POTTS, was subpoenaed to give evidence of
the fact. EDWARDS, however, thought fit not to obey the
subpoena, for which contempt he was prosecuted, and by the Court of
the King’s Bench has been sentenced, in addition to an imprisonment
of two months which he has already undergone, to be further confined
for the space of six calendar months in the county gaol of
Maidstone.

DEATHS – On the 15th ult, at Brompton, Kent, Alexander
TORBITT, Esq, Surgeon, R.N. and late Superintending his Imperial

indictments, for shooting at two of the inhabitants of Deal, with
the intent to murder, &c. This was arose out of a contest with some
smugglers, to watch and prevent whose practices Messrs ROBBILARD
and ARQUINBAU were stationed by their commander, Captain
McCULLOCH, of the Severn. The particulars were stated some time
since. They were acquitted on both indictments.

of Leeds Castle, and an eminent changes ringer and peal conductor,
who has assisted to ring 115 peals, each being composed of more than
5000 changes. He was one of the fourteen who completed the whole
revolution on the eight bells, viz. 40,320 changes in 27 hours, on
the 7th and 8th days of April, 1761, on Leeds
bells. The deceased stood at one time 14 hours and 44 minutes.
