(Thank you for your e-ma= il asking for information relating to the possible
admission of the children named above into the New Orphan Houses, Ashley
Down.

I feel sure we have found the right family but the year of Percy's birth is=
1889 not 1875.  Rose was admitted on 8 February 1893, Albert and Percy were
admitted on 22 March 1893 and Annie on 15 May 1895.

The information that is usually available consists of the entries in the
Admission and Dismissal books, which records such family details as the
parent's names, the date and cause of death and often the names of the
nearest relatives and also the date the child left and the place where they=
were sent.

Usually available also is the correspondence file, which contains the
letters and other documents written prior to admission.  These letters= are
to do with the process of admission but may contain family background
details.  There may possibly be some certificates in the file but all = the
children's personal records such as school reports have not survived to the=
present day.  Each record varies greatly so we are unable to guarantee what
particulars will be found in the record when it is retrieved.

We will be happy to take copies of the information we have to send to you and the following charges, which relate to the family and are not charges per child, apply:-)  I HAVE SENT FOR THESE RECORDS

Fanny tried to raise the children on her own but after a few months they were put into Muller’s Orphan’s House in Bristol, England.

Percy owned a bakery in Sheffield (4th largest city in England) and lived just outside of Leicester in Smethwick.

Polly is said to have been very kind and gentle.

Annie's husband was a bank manager in Leicester, England before WW1. At one point y= ou could immigrate to Canada to escape going to jail so Aunt Annie's husband t= ook this option after getting himself into some legal trouble at the bank.  There was also an architect in the family who was a big shot in Leicester in the late 1900's.

Suzanne met Aunt Annie, her son Reginald and his wife Audrey Toye while in Smethwick, = Birminghamshire (2nd largest and second most cultural= ly diverse city in the UK).  Aunt Annie gave Suzanne some handmade linens.

Albert Edward Walk= er

Alice Jessie Hollingsworth was born April 14, 1885= and married Albert Edward Walker.  Alice had a sister Edith Hollingsworth = and a baby brother who died.

Edith Hollingsworth (Alice Hollingsworth's sister) married William Randle and had Wilfred, Stanley, Jack and Dorothy

Annie a= nd Ernest had four children, Marjorie who was blinded from too strong drops be= ing put into her eyes as a young child, Elsa who was a clerk at the Right House= in Hamilton and lived on Maple Street in Hamilton, Jack and Les.  They li= ved on Cumberland Ave. in Hamilton.

Their mother Susan Gill married Roebuck Hollingsworth.

Before Albert and Alice Jessie left England Alice said 'If you are going, I= am going too'.  Originally Albert and Alice wanted to go to Australia but couldn't afford to.   They arrived in Halifax and went to Paris w= here they both worked in a knitting mill.

Albert and Alice and Joseph Walker came to Canada in 1910 and landed in Halifax.  I cannot seem to find any immigrati= on records anywhere.

Alice and Albert went back= to England for a holiday during the war and recall while en route back home to Canada, being chased by a German submarine and were terribly afraid they we= re going to be torpedoed.

Albert's best friend in Le= icester was Reverend Will Thorpe in Chesham, Buckinghamshire.  Will was a Bapt= ist Minister and raised Albert from an early age.  Albert shown o= n 1901 census as being in Wales.
