Provided by Kitty Parker of the UK ---------------------------------- Will of Benjamin Morfoot, dated 21 November 1727 In the name of God Amen I Benjamin Morfoot of Freiston in the county of Lincoln gent being sick in body but of sound & perfect Mind and Memory do make & declare this to be my last Will & Testament in manner and form following / that is to say / Inprimis I give devise my cottage or tenement & three acres & three roods / more or less / to the same belonging situate lying and being Freiston aforesaid in a place called Honey Toft unto my kinsman Benjamin Morfoot his heirs forever which said cottage & premises are now in the tenure of John George or his assigns Item I give and devise all those three acres of arable / more or less / lying in Freiston aforesaid in a field there called Bardney Field now in the tenure of the said John George and also these acres and an half of pasture ground / more or less / lying in Freiston aforesaid in a place called Mills Croft now in the tenure of Samuel Hawding or his assigns unto my kinsman Joshua Harwood of Butterwick in the said county of Lincoln & his heirs upon this trust and confidence in him reposed that he pay yearly the rents and profitts of the said three acres of arable unto the Vicar and Overseers of the poor of Freiston aforesaid to be by them paid and distributed amongst such poor widows of this said parish who receive no collection or any other public alms or charity upon Good Friday forever And also that he pay out of the rents and profits of the said three acres and a half of pasture ground the sume of twenty shillings yearly unto the Schoolmaster of the Charity School of Freiston aforesaid & his successors forever Item I give and devise all those my three acres of arable / more or less / lately inclosed lying in Freiston aforesaid nigh a place called Lea Rig unto my kinswoman Elizabeth the wife of William Bonner of Boston in the said county of Lincoln for and during the term of her natural life and after her decease then I give the same unto my said kinsman Benjamin Morfoot and his heirs forever Item I give all that my messuage or tenement and eighteen acres of pasture and three roods of arable / more or less / situate lying and being in Freiston aforesaid which I purchased of Senior West clerk and now in the hands of George Michaell or his assigns unto my said kinsman Joshua Harwood & his heirs forever he finding and providing at his own expense for my kinsman Thomas Loynam son of Benjamin Loynam of Butterwick aforesaid All apparel both linen and woollen suitable for one of his rank and degree until he be fitt and qualified to be entered as a student in one of the Universitys of Oxford or Cambridge and also paying for his learning till he goes to the University and all school books which he shall have occasion for during the time he continues at school and further also to the said Joshua Harwood paying unto the Vicar of the said parish of Freiston for the time being the sume of two hundred pounds in manner as is hereinafter mentioned / that is to say / the sume of one hundred pounds part thereof immediately upon the said Thomas Loynam being admitted a student in one of the said Universitys and the other sume of one hundred pounds when the said Thomas Loynam has been two years as a student at one of the said Universitys which said sume of two hundred pounds is to be paid by the said Vicar to the said Thomas Loynam for his maintenance at the University for the space of four years after the rate of fifty pounds per Ann and then quarterly in each year or in any such proportion as the said Thomas Loynam shall /Benj Morfoot [signed] / have occasion for the same and if it please God that the said Thomas Loynam shall depart this life before the said four years are expired that then such sume of money which shall be in the hands of the Vicar of the said parish of Freiston / all the bills of the said Thos Loynam for tuition and other necessary expenses being first paid / shall be returned back and paid unto the said Joshua Harwood his heirs or assigns Item I give unto Mary Joshua Elizabeth Elianor Sarah Winifred Loynam children of the said Benjamin Loynam the sume of five pounds apiece to be paid unto each of them if they shall severally attain the respective ages of eighteen years and if it happen that any of the said children dye before that age then the said sume so to be paid to such child or children so dying shall be equally paid and distributed amongst the survivors of them Item I give unto Joseph Loynam another child of the said Benjamin Loynam the sume of twenty pounds to be paid to him if he shall attain the age of eighteen years but if he dyes before he reaches that age that then the said twenty pounds shall be equally paid & distributed to and amongst all his brothers and sisters when they shall attain their respective ages of eighteen years Item I give unto Thomas Halls son of Richard Halls of Freiston aforesaid five pounds if he shall attain his age of eighteen years Item I give unto my kinswoman Elizabeth the wife of Richard Williams of [Freiston] the sum of twenty pounds to be paid to her within six months after my decease Item I give unto my kinsman William Morfoot the sume of ten pounds to be paid to him when he shall attain the age of eighteen years Item I give unto my kinsman [Robt] the son of [---] Gibson ten pounds Item I give unto Adlard Pishy of Wrangle in the said county of Lincoln my silver watch and one gold ring Item I give unto John Gilbert and Thomas Gilbert sons of Thomas Gilbert late of Fishtoft in the county aforesaid yeoman deceased each of them a guinea Item I give unto Mr John Jessop of Boston aforesaid & Mr Thomas Burton of Boston each of them five pounds Item I give unto all my servants that shall live with me at the time of my death ten shillings apiece Item I give all my lands in Bennington in the said county of Lincoln now in the hands of Richard [Spain] or his assigns and also all my lands lying in Freiston aforesaid which I lately purchased of Wm George unto my said kinsman Joshua Harwood and his heirs upon trust to sell the same with the advice and approbation of the said John Jessop and Thomas Burton with all convenient speed and the money arising by such sale to pay all my debts and legacys in case my personal estate shall not be sufficient for that purpose and I also give to the said Joshua Harwood all my goods chattels and personal estate whatsoever he paying my debts legacys and funeral expenses and I do also make him sole executor of this my last will and testament Lastly I revoke all former wills by me made In witness whereof I have to this my last will and testament containing two sheets of paper to the first of them set my hand
