Obituary For: Charles Wick (05 January 1879-30 June 1967) ************************************************************************ Submitted by: Colleen, Date: 2006 © All rights reserved. ************************************************************************ Charles Wick is Laid to Rest 06 July 1967- New York Mills Harold _______________________________________ Funeral services were held Monday, July 3rd at Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills for Charles Wick, who died June 30th at the Elders Home. Reverend Eugene Lampela officiated at the service. Miss Lorraine Lepisto was organist and accompanied Mrs. Verner Porkkonen and Mr. William Paavola, soloists. Pallbearers were: Arne Suomela, Verner Porkkonen, Melvin Paavola, Harry Rantala, William Maki, and Victor Maki. Interment was in Woodland Cemetery and the Kampsula Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Charles Wick was born on January 5, 1879 in Vihanti, Korvenkyla, Oulu Iaani Finland. He passed away at the age of 88 years, following a lingering illness for one year. He had been a resident of this community since 1900, when he came here from Finland at the age of 18 years. In 1906, Mr. Wick was married to Ida Marie (Hyyppa) Johnson in New York Mills. This union was blessed with four children. The Wick’s farmed in Newton Township. Mr. Wick was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills. He served in all capacities with the Trinity Church. He was also a past officer of the New York Mills Elevator, Co-op store, creamery, shipping Association and Telephone Company. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Ernest John (Ailie) Niskala, and two sons, Walfred of New York Mills and William of Minneapolis, 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three daughters-in-law; one son-in-law; three sisters, Mrs. Katri Huusko of Elma, Washington and two in Finland. Preceding him in death were his wife Ida, who died in 1957, and a son Eino Wick who died in 1958. Out of town relatives that attended the funeral service were the William Wick family, Sadie Wick and Lalene, Willard Kiminski, Ernest J Niskala, Jr., Mrs. Inga Hauser, Mrs. Gabriel Boedigheimer and Mrs. Everett Rankka and Katherine, all of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wick and family of Fergus Falls; Reverend and Mrs. George Wick and family of Superior Wisconsin; Mrs. Robert Kotarski and Diane of Saint Louis Park; and Mr. and Mrs. Stanely Lemppia of Duluth.
