1 Ordered that each soldier’s family be paid
ten dollars on acct of their claims on the soldier’s fund
2 Ordered that Bessy F. Parker be paid sixty dollars for twelve
months board and clothing of the family of Samuel Stephenson -- -- --
their being no further bussiness the board adjourned to meet on
the first monday in febr’y AD 1863 --

At a meeting of the board of County Commissioners, present
J.M. Sparkman, Mathew Hinson Enoch T. Geiger and E.H. Jordan President
of the board
Ordered that S.J. Donning be paid the Amt of his account for baring
election returns from Newnansville Febr’y 1862 amount Three dollars and
sixty cents $3.60/100 ---
Ordered that Fifty percent be assessed upon
the State Tax for the relief and support and benefit of indigent families
of the Soldiers of the County of Alachua, said assessment for the year
of 1863 --- and that the tax assessor and Collector be paid
for his services 3 1/2 per cent ---
Ordered that Stephen McCall be appointed an
agent to go to Monticello in the State of Florida and procure for the benefit
of the Indigent Soldier’s Families, Factory Thread to the amount of One
Thousand dollars, which he is hereby required to lay out. There being
no further business the board adjourned to meet again on the first Monday
in May 1863

Ordered that Elizabeth Canon have a bunch
of Thread and as she has drawn a bunch heretofore that in any distribution
of Funds hereafter she be required to pay for the bunch of Thread rec’d
this day
Ordered that Sam’l Stevensons Children have
a bunch of Thread and as he has drawn a bunch heretofore that in any distribution
of funds hereafter he be required to pay for the bunch of Thread rec’d
this day -- There being no further business the board adjourned.

The Board met. W.T. Cheevs, & Henry Snowden Commissioners
elect, presented themselves, and received the oath of office
Present J.C. Gardner Pres of the Board & C. Rain E.T. Geiger
The following preamble and order was passed:
Whereas: It is made the duty of the Board
of County Commissioners by an act of the last General Assembly of the State
for the relief of Soldier’s families and those requiring assistance, to
furnish a list of such persons &c
Be it therefore ordered by the Board
that C. Rain, Henry Snowden, W.T. Cheeves and J. M. Sparkman, be appointed
by the Board, and that they be paid five Dollars per day out of any money
in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated They shall visit every district
in the county for the purpose of completing said list with the least possible
delay and that Commissioners be instructed to ascertain how much corn &c
is required for their maintenance and how much can be procured in their
immediate neighborhoods and purchase the same giving an order on the County
Treasurer, and he to pay the same out of the funds appropriated for that
purchase, and that they report the same in accordance with the act and
the prescribed instructions furnished by the authorities.
Ordered that the county treasurer be appointed to examine
the Tax books of David A. Frier and that he be paid for said service out
of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated
David A. Frier presented an account of his brother
of $1.80 for transmitting election returns from Newnansville which was
examined and ordered to be paid out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise
appropriated
Ordered that S.J. Temple be notified
to furnish salt for Soldiers families immediately in accordance with contract
Stephen F. Harvard presented his bond as Tax Collector
for the two years next insuing, from the 1st Monday in Oct. Last which
was approved, after which the oath of office was duly administered

Feb 1st 1864
Board met present J.C. Gardner Pres of the Board, J.M. Sparkman,

Commissioner Snowden presented a list of the
names of persons who require assistance, which was examined and passed
Commissioner Sparkman presented a list of
the same, which was examined and passed
Commissioner Cheaves presented his list which
was examined and passed
J.M. Croxton presented an account for corn
furnished to Soldier’s families amounting to three hundred and thirty Dollars,
which was examined and ordered to be paid out of any money in the Treasury
not otherwise appropriated.
Ordered that Stephen McCall, Esq’r be authorized to contract for
the building of a bridge across Hog Town Creek and that he have discretionary
***** in locating the site of the same
S. McCall, Esq who was authorized to Examine the tax books of D.A,
Frier, having performed that duty reported them correct
Ordered that Samuel W. Burnett be paid fifty Dollars, out of any
money in the Treasury that not otherwise appropriated for ten ****** of
paper furnished the county.
Ordered that the County Treasurer be authorized
to contract with the manufacturing agent at Monticello for eight bales
of yarn and pay for the same out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise
appropriated, for the use of the Soldier’s families
Robert O’Conner presented an account for schooling poor children
amounting to$200 which was examined and ordered to be paid out of any School
fund in the treasury not otherwise appropriated
J.H. Roper presented an account of the same, amounting to $124 which
was examined and oderred to be paid out of any School fund in the treasury
not otherwise appropriated
Stephen McCall presented an account of fifteen Dollars for examining
the tax books of D.A. Frier which was examined and ordered to be paid
A. Pooser presented an A/C of $1.80 for bringing election returns
from Newnansville to Gainesville which was examined and orderd to be paid
out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated
Ordered that Commissioner Snowden be authorized
to purchase Salt for Soldiers families, and draw his draft on the county
treasurer who is authorized to pay the same out of any money in the treasury
not otherwise appropriated

Board met present J.C. Gardner Pres of Board, W.T. Cheaves, Henry
Snowden, & C. Rain. Absent Commissioner Sparkman.
Mr Trussel Fleming presented an account for
corn & salt furnished the family of Mrs. Baxter amounting to $120 which
was examined and ordered to be paid out of any money in the treasury not
otherwise appropriated
Ordered that Mrs Tillis the wife of G*** Tillis
have one bunch of thread.
W.T. Cheaves presented an account of $7.50
for potatoes furnished the families of Soldiers which was examined and
ordered to be paid out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated.
Ordered that the County Treasurer be authorized
to find any Confederate money now in his hands belonging to any fund, in
bonds of the Confederacy bearing 4 per cent interest
Ordered that J.R. Bevel be paid $48.81 for
beef furnished to family of A. Clark
Ordered that Mrs Tillis be paid $20 for corn
for corn furnished her by J. A. Scott out of any money in the treasury
not otherwise appropriated
There being no further business the Board adjourned to 1st Monday
in April next

April 4th 1864
The Board Met, present J.C. Gardner, Pres of the Board, Commissioners
Sparkman Snowden, Rain & Cheaves.
Ordered that all contracts or orders given
for corn purchased for the supply of Soldiers families, other than those
under special contract, be paid by the Treasurer out of any money in the
Treasury not otherwise appropriated at p** without depreciation
Ordered that the County Treasurer pay to Commissioner
Rain twelve hundred dollars for salt purchased by him for the use of Soldier’s
families out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated.
Resolved that the thanks of the Board are
due, and is hereby tendered to William Strickland for his **********, and
benevolent feeling manifested in behalf of the families of soldiers in
the county
Ordered that Commissioner Cheaves be paid
$70 out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated for potatoes
& meat furnished Soldiers families
There being no further business the Board adjourned to meet on the
1st Monday in May next

May 2nd 1864
Board met present J.C. Gardner Pres of Board W.T. Cheaves, C. Rain
& H. Snowden Commissioners. Absent Commissioner Sparkman.
Resolved that Commissioner Rain be authorized to contract for the
repairs on the Court house, and that he report at the next session
of the Board
The County Treasurer having reported the books of the tax Collector
S.F. Harvard correct for the year 1863, it was ordered that they be received
and certified accordingly.
Ordered that the Judge of Probate forward
the following certificate to the P.Q.M. of this District.
We the Judge of Probate & County Commissioners
do hereby Certify that after the most strenuous ifforts to purchase corn
for the Soldiers families that they are unable to purchase the same.
That they are very much in need of three hundred bushels & unless they
procure an order from the P.Q.M. for a portion of the ****** corn much
suffering will be the consequence.
There being no further business the board adjourned to the 1st Monday
in June next

Elias Bauknight presented an account for provisions
furnished to families of soldiers & seven dollars and fifty cents of
which was ordered to be paid out of any money in the treasury not otherwise
appropriated
J.M. Sparkman presented an account of $95.25
for provisions furnished to soldiers families which was examined and ordered
to be paid out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated
Commissioner Cheves presented an account of One hundred and eleven
dollars which was examined and ordered to be paid.
Commissioner S. Sparkman presented an A/C amounting to $311 which
was examined & ordered to be paid out of any money in the treasury
not otherwise appropriated.
There being no further business the Board adjourned.

Mrs Susan Miller presented an account of Forty
three Dollars for corn purchased for her family also provisions furnished
Miss Stapper which was examined and ordered to be paid
J.T. Thomas presented an account of $30 for
corn furnished the family of Mrs Miller & Branford which was examined
and ordered to be paid.
Mr. Rain presented an account of fifteen Dollars
for corn furnished the family of Mrs Rivers, which was examined and ordered
to be paid
Mr Cade presented an account of fifty four
Dollars for corn furnished the families of Sullivant and Price, which was
examined and ordered to be paid
