  John Henry Laird (seated, third from left) was born 13 August 1873 in Walton County, Florida. He moved to Bay County by April 1910 and was a naval stores operator and a beach pioneer, operating one of the first resort hotels at Phillips Inlet. He was a member of Wallace Memorial Presbyterian Church, Panama City Kiwanis Club, and the Chamber of Commerce. He died 17 October 1956 in West Bay, Bay County, Florida. Laird descendants live in Panama City today.

His daughter, Ruby Kade Laird (extreme left) was born in July 1909 in DeFuniak Springs, Walton County, Florida, one of twin daughters born to John Henry and Ada Victoria (Zorn) Laird. She lived in Millville at the age of one year. She married Ernest Victor Welch 17 March 1934 in Pensacola, Escambia County, Florida. She graduated from FSU in 1932 and taught elementary school for 25 years at St. Andrew and Lucille Moore Elementary Schools. She died 13 June 1991 in Panama City. Her descendants are active residents of Bay County today.
