Charlie Caper Smith was born in Bamberg County South Carolina. He married Nora Lee Walker also of Bamberg County. Nora Lee Walker became the wife of Charlie Caper Smith in 1905. There were business opportunities in the Turpentine and Timber businesses, so the couple ended up around Lakeland, Polk County, Florida where their sons were born in 1906 and 1907. The first daughter, Kittie Maria Smith, was born December 10, 1910 in Fountain.
The Smith family moved to Panama City the 1920s and Charlie died in 1932. During the late 1930's Kittie married and completed her training to be a Practical Nurse from the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing in Chicago, Illinois.
