Page 1 Basic Census Search—Only
certain census years have been indexed.
It will probably be early 2004 before the 1930 index is
available. Some census years don’t
have indexes for all states yet. The
1930 census index should be completed soon.
It is better to search one census year at a
time—rather than all.
Only the Head of Household is in the index, but the entire household
is given on the actual census image.
If no names are found or too many, try Advanced Search by clicking on
the tab behind Basic Search. If the name is found, but you can’t find it on
the actual census image, try going to the next page of the census by clicking
on the page-forward arrow above the census image. Census records have a page
A and a page B for each number. If the handwriting is difficult to read, try
increasing the ZOOM to 300%, or click on the negative image tab. Now the handwriting is white against a
black background. Advanced Census Search—Click on tab. Be selective about which blanks you fill in. To decrease the number of names found, put in the county or township or ward, if known, or put the place of birth, or age from the dropdown age rang |
