Director Doug Matthews.
Minutes of June 5, 2006 approved.
Treasurer’s report given. Balance as of 9-11-06 was
$6174.50. Report attached.
All visitors to the meeting were welcomed by Terri
Ohr.
Special presentation and brief address by City of
Clearwater visitors: Mayor Hibbard asked about our problem with property
damage. He asked if additional lighting
would help. The board requested, in
addition to lighting, for more police patrols and enforcement. Mayor Hibbard introduced the city’s concept
of archiving Clearwater Stories, in a similar fashion to oral histories
presented on the National Public Radio show All
Things Considered. The city would like to partner with CHS. This could be a possible fundraiser but most
definitely a way to preserve and pass on local oral history. Doug Matthews provided more details. Doug asked for the board to designate a few
people to be in charge of gathering input for the city. It was decided that Mike Sanders and Bill
Wallace would serve in this function.
Please pass on any names of people you believe should be interviewed for
this project to Mike or Bill. Also, let
them know if you are interested in being an interviewer. Please also include any suggestions of
groups Doug should contact. Doug’s e
mail is douglas.matthews@myclearwater.com
and his phone number is 727-562-4661.
A motion was made by Dean Robinson : We, as a society,
support the Clearwater Stories Project.
The motion was seconded by Pat Moore.
The motion carried.
OLD BUSINESS
A. Membership Committee- Bettie Mease
Bettie was unable to attend as she is at home
recovering from surgery. She will be at
the November fish fry.
B. Program Committee- Jay Rhodes
Jay was unable
to attend the meeting. Terri reported
that he is making progress with the November fish fry and will provide an
update at the next meeting.
C. Public Relations- Dean Robinson
Dean shared recent articles in the local press. As of June 5th CHS has been
mentioned in 25 articles so far this year.
Terri asked Dean to double check and make sure our address is included
in any articles. Dean presented the
board with a framed article regarding the history and closing of The Clearwater
Beach Hotel. This was donated by
Wallace Lee. Lorelei to send a thank
you note. The Plumb House made the Imogene Hub of Imogene, Iowa thanks to
Buddy Gross’ son-in-law. A note about
our team approach to rat control was included in that publication.
D. Museum Committee- Dave Perkins
Our rat problem has been tackled, for the most part,
by Buddy Gross. Bill Wallace will
re-enforce our dining room exterior door.
Someone has been trying to break in again. Terri shared an e mail that we received from a neighbor. In part, the email asked what we are doing
to fix up and maintain the appearance of the museum. Terri will respond to the e mail. Mike Sanders has posted a No Trespassing sign from the city. We did have another recent break in but
nothing was taken. Joe Turner was able
to respond to the alarm. Lorelei
reported on recent donations. A small
desk was donated. A male mannequin was
also given for the bomber display.
Lorelei reported that a local designer, Deborah Devine recently walked
through the house and gave suggestions for re-arranging the furnishings. After the items are rearranged, Ms. Devine
will come back for a final walk through with suggestions about small
adjustments. The decorator donated her
time for this project. A work day was
scheduled for Saturday September 30th at 9am. Please attend if you are able. Buddy will have someone check on the
upstairs A/C and report at the next meeting.
E. Artifacts and documents Committee- Joan Turner
Preservation- Mike Sanders
Mike reported that the city reinstalled the Seminole
Bridge marker at Mike’s request. Mike
was able to get the city to fashion a marker from items the city already had at
a considerable savings. Mike also
attended the dedication of Howard T. Remick Park and made a brief speech. Terri
stated that she received two old menus from Siple’s restaurant. Terri donated some old postcards of
Clearwater. George Fulmer donated some
old photos.
F. Historical Research Committee- Pat Moore
Pat presented a 1949 Pram Races program that was
recently donated. Laddie reported on
grant progress. It is an exciting
prospect but we need more money as funds are matched by the state. Our status as a museum also needs to be
clarified.
G. Fund Raising Committee- Helen Wilcox
No report.
H. Homestead Committee- Lorelei Keif and Anne Epling
Sign up sheet passed around for Saturday shifts at the
museum..
