We are proud to be a part of the USGenWeb Project and the FLGenWeb Project, Inc. I and want to assure all visitors that we are a non-commercial, all-volunteer organization and NOT connected in any way with USGenWeb, Inc., a for-profit Idaho corporation. . . .
In March and April of 1996, a group of volunteer genealogists organized the Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea was to provide a single entry point, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index. At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page.
There are still several Florida Counties that need sponsers. There is really nothing to it. You are not responsible for doing lookups, (unless you want to), and you don't even have to live in the county you sponsor. Take a look at the Florida County list and if you would like to host a county, an application is available on the State Volunteers page.
