"Remarkable Results in Truck Growing"
Remarkable Results in Truck Growing - Arcadia Trucker Grows $7,500 worth of Truck on Fifteen-Acre Tract A remarkable achievement in trucking was disclosed this week by a newspaper reporter who visited the farm of A.D. Johnson, near Nocatee. Mr. Johnson is one of the best truckers in the entire state, as the record of his achievemnet shows. During the present year, Mr. Johnson cultivated fifteen acres of land. He had five acres of cabbage, eight acres of potatoes and two acres of miscellaneous crops. He sold the cabbage crop for $2,500; his potatoes for $3,600, and his other crops for $900, making total of $7,000 for the fifteen acres of truck. Three crops were followed by corn and peas, the corn crop selling for $500, bringing the total up to $7,500 or $500 cash per acre for the products of fifteen acres. He still has the peas, which will be turned under to build up the soil and reduce the amount of fertilizer required for trucking next season. As a soil builder, this crop will be worth several hundred dollars worth of fertilizer besides benefiting the soil. This is a record achievement which would be impossible in any other section of Florida. ~ Article contributed
