Unless you have a specific DAR National Number that you want, it is best to only specify that you would like the latest application for the Patriot Ancestor that you are looking for, providing as much information as you have. Also specify the child (line through) that is in your lineage but be sure and NOT check the box limiting the request to a certain child.

The SAR has limits on which applications may be used as proof. In general only those applications that include proof of lineage may used as proof for an SAR application. Older applications did not require proof up to the standards of today - remember than in those early days an applicant was usually the grand-daughter or great-grand-daughter of their Patriot Ancestor and they KNEW their lineage.

Further the SAR has stated that a DAR application that has not been checked fully to a previous DAR application may not be used as proof for such generations. The simplest way to understand this is to look at this DAR application.

Note that while the first generation has tick marks (indicating that the item has been check to proof submitted with the application) on all the items starting with the 3rd generation there is only one tick mark and a reference added to DAR #577193. This indicates that the current application was checked to DAR #577193 but there is no indication which items such as dates, locations, etc. had been prooved on DAR #577193.

The simplest way to handle this situation is to include both the original and referenced Record Copies DAR application (in this illustration DAR #577193).
