The Fort Cooper Chapter continues to work towards the three objectives of The Daughters of the American Revolution: Historic Preservation, Education and Patriotism. We are continuing to increase our Chapter membership with new sisters; this April we acquired our 100th member after only 4 years of organization. Among our membership, we have two sisters with over 60 years of membership, two with 50 years, two with 40 years and three with over 25 years of DAR membership. We also have several third generation members of which we are proud of. Sadly, we also lost three members to death this past year.

The Chapter has been recognized by the State Society Daughters of the American Revolution with Certificates of Award for outstanding achievement for the following work this year: 100% Outstanding Chapter Achievement, Master Questionnaire and Honor Roll-Gold, a Blue Ribbon for 30% more subscriptions for the DAR Newsletter, Americanism, Community Service, Conservation, Constitution Week where we placed 2nd for the Most Constitution Week Events and 3rd place for the Most School Classes Adopted, DAR Genealogy Preservation with 1st place for Number of Volunteers, DAR Service for Veterans, Historic Preservation, Lineage Research, the Flag of the United States, FSSDAR Library for donations of books, and use of DAR Speakers. The Chapter was recognized for their increase in membership, Support of Paws for Patriots, Project Patriot and for Programs. The Chapter won first place for Labels for Education for the number of labels sent to the DAR Schools. Several of our members won Certificates for Outstanding Achievement in American Heritage: Linda Gasparini placed 2nd nationally for her Crafts/Jewelry entry, Shirley Hartley Crafts/Art & Sculpture for her Watercolor, Carolyn Ohlmeyer Crafts/Decoupage and Helen Sells-Crafts/Jewelry for her Christmas Tree Art. Linda Gasparini was also awarded a certificate for her efforts in Conservation and Beverly Gentry received certificates for her Correspondent Docent work with the DAR Museum and for DAR Services for Veterans. Priscilla Tyson received a certificate for Outstanding Achievement in DAR Genealogy Preservation for processing over 3000 applications for the Descendants Preservation Project. Carolyn Ohlmeyer’s Power Point presentation on “Flag Day” was accepted for the National Program Library. The Fort Cooper Chapter acknowledged the outstanding JROTC Cadets from the three local high schools: Citrus, Crystal River and Lecanto and awarded for the first time a ROTC Metal to the Sea Cadet Program for outstanding Cadet. A DAR certificate, JROTC Medal and a check were given to each. The Chapter recognized a local resident for her contribution in preservation of local history for Women's History Month. We participate in the OCP, a program that provides "manufacturer's coupons" to military families at overseas bases. To date we have contributed over $798,765 in coupons. We participated in a Veteran’s Week program at the local mall, in our local Veteran’s Day Parade and in the welcoming home of our local National Guard Unit that returned from Afghanistan after a year of deployment. We are involved in the Veterans History Project to collect and preserve audio/video oral histories, letters, diaries, maps, photographs, and home movies of America's war veterans and those who served in support of them. We hosted a Flag Day Program at two of the local libraries with the Withlacoochee SAR Chapter and were involved in programs at two other libraries. We helped celebrated Flag Day at the Fort Cooper State Park. Two of our Chapter Members were selected as Chairman of State Committees. As you can see, we are a busy and active chapter. The Chapter is very proud of the efforts of all our members.
