The Fort Cooper Chapter celebrated our sixth year anniversary this past April. The Chapter continues to work towards the three objectives of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution: Historic Preservation, Education and Patriotism. We are continuing to increase our Chapter membership with new sisters and now have over 110 members. Among our membership, we have two sisters with over 60 years of membership, two with 50 years, two with 40 years and three with over 25 years of DAR membership. Sadly we lost one of our organizing members this year. We have several third generation members of which we are proud. The Chapter has won awards and recognition at both National and State levels. The Chapter School Committee was awarded 1st Place for collection of Labels and Box Tops For Education. Several of our members have received individual awards. The Chapter acknowledged the outstanding JROTC Cadets from the three local high schools: Citrus, Crystal River and Lecanto and awarded a ROTC Metal to the Sea Cadet Program for outstanding Cadet. Each student was awarded a DAR certificate, JROTC Medal and a check. The Chapter recognized a local resident for her work in establishing a permanent Veterans Memorial in Old Homosassa. The Chapter presented an educational scholarship to a deserving high school senior. We celebrate Flag Day, Constitution Week, and we are very active in Veterans recognition. As you can see, we are a busy and active chapter, thanks to the efforts of our membership.
