Educational Opportunities

The following genealogical educational opportunities are offered by, or supported by, the Genealogical Society of Sarasota.

Do you have any Italian Ancestors?

The Italian Special Interest Group (SIG) continues to welcome people at all levels of experience who wish to further their knowledge of their Italian Roots. New attendees will have an opportunity to introduce themselves. All members will have the opportunity to describe successful research techniques of general interest and to solicit help from the group on their brick walls. Members have shared methods that have proved effective in their research and solicited and received suggestions on breaking down their brick walls. One member described a visit to her ancestral Italian village. Special attention and assistance is being provided to those just beginning to investigate their Italian roots.

The Society has established a Special Interest Group (SIG) to enable researchers to share information about searching for Ancestors from the Germanic areas of Europe. See the GSS Calendar of Events page on this website for dates and locations of these meetings, and plan to attend.

The Society has established a Special Interest Group (SIG) to enable researchers to share information about searching for your Scotland/Northern Ireland Ancestors. See the GSS Calendar of Events page on this website for dates and locations of these meetings, and plan to attend.

How computers can help genealogical researchers -

The Society has established a Computer Group SIG. This group meets monthly at Selby Public Library. The objective of the SIG is to help each other learn more about how computers can help us with our genealogical research and organization of data. Computer skills of the attendees vary from beginner to very experienced. The session includes one or more presentations and/or discussions related to computer genealogy. Also, a question and answer period is always included. Check the GSS Calendar of Events page on this web site for the date of the next meeting and plan to attend.
