The Genealogical Society of South Brevard County (GSSB) started with eight members in 1974. It has since grown to a vital active group of more than 300 members interested in genealogy. As many of these members have moved to Brevard County from throughout the United States, the society's genealogical emphasis is nationwide and worldwide with a subgroup specializing in French, Canadian and Acadian genealogical research. As with other such genealogical societies, GSSB's purpose is to encourage the growth of the genealogical family tree through education, publications, shared knowledge, classes, workshops and an extensive library. As a non-profit organization, an 18-member working board - one third elected yearly by the membership - directs the genealogical society. |
