ABOUT OUR CHAPTER
The Henry Morrison Flagler Chapter, NSDAR, was organized on May 26, 1995, by Organizing Regent, Ruth Van Otteren, and 19 other organizing members. The Chapter is based in Gulf Stream, Florida. It has now grown to 54 members.
The Chapter was named for Henry Morrison Flagler (b.1830-d.1913) who founded Standard Oil with John D. Rockefeller and Samuel Andrews. He also purchased the Jacksonville, St. Augustine & Halifax Railroad and built hotels along the east coast of Florida. He built Whitehall (pictured below) in Palm Beach, as a winter home.
By 1905 Henry Flagler decided to extend his railroad all the way to Key West. The Florida Overseas Railroad was completed in 1912.
Henry Flagler single-handedly brought development to the East Coast of Florida and is responsible for turning Palm Beach into what it is today.

Whitehall, pictured above, was the winter home that Henry Morrison
Flaglerbuilt in Palm Beach.
