WORK OF THE SOCIETY

To perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men
and women who achieved American Independence;
to promote the development of an enlightened public opinion;
and to foster patriotic citizenship;
-- these are the objects of our Society,
Daughters of the American Revolution

Historic Preservation

The Henry Morrison Flagler Chapter helps to further historic preservation by assisting prospective members with research and the completion of their application papers. Additionally, the Chapter makes an annual donation of DAR publications to area libraries.

Promotion of Education

The DAR supports schools for underprivileged students. Two of the DAR Schools, Tamassee DAR School, Tamassee, South Carolina and the Kate Duncan Smith DAR School, Grant, Alabama, were founded by the DAR State Societies. The DAR contributes to the support of four more schools:

-Berry College Inc. in Mount Berry, Georgia
-Crossnore School Inc. in Crossnore, North Carolina
-Hillside School Inc. in Marlborough, Massachusetts
-Hindman Settlement School in Hindman, Kentucky

The Henry Morrison Flagler Chapter supports this objective through annual contributions to some of these schools, presenting a local student with a Good Citizenship Award and support for our local C.A.R. Chapter.

Patriotic Endeavor

The Henry Morrison Flagler Chapter works to further patriotism through support for the Veterans in VA Medical Centers, distribution of the DAR Manual for Citizenship, participation in Veterans Day events and Memorial Day Services, supplying flags for use at patriotic events and an annual award presented to an outstanding Jr. ROTC Cadet.

These are just a few examples of the ways in which our Chapter carries out the goals of the Society.
