Roguetown, Jackson Co FL
# 1
I checked the BLM Land Records of Jackson Co., for the location of land bought by John Williams - the house where the voting took place - and in 1827 he purchased 80 acres of land located at 12 West, 7 North, West ½ of SE Section 20, which is located about 4½ - 5 miles northeast of the center of Graceville, pretty close to the AL state line. Several other of the voters listed also owned land in that area. Altho I didnt find your grandfather, Washington Arnold Cooper, listed on the land records, he must have owned land because it was a prerequisite for being eligible to vote, but it wasnt sufficient simply to own property there; he had to prove that it had been his "place of permanent abode" for the six months immediately preceding the election in which he offered to vote, and that he also had resided within the Territory and State of Florida for the two years immediately prior to the election of Monday, 26 May 1845.
Anyway, Roguetown was probably located in the 12 West Range of Township 7
North somewhere around Section 20. It is probably one of the extinct towns
now that no longer exists, because I cant find it on any of the older
or new maps that Ive looked at.

That Section 20, TWP 7N Range 12 West is where the Crutchfield Cemetery was and Abram (Abraham) and Nancy (nee Taylor?) Philips lived. Last time Abram was known to be alive was 1826. Loose estate papers on Abram Philips in 1827 shows that the widow Nancy married William Williams. Abram had an estate inventoried at around $ 7,000. My quest is to find out what happened to Abram and Nancy's children, what their names were and whether she had children by William Williams. Nancy Philips received her land grant in January of 1827. As ever, Frances

I asked the question earlier this year. No one seemed to be able to come
up with a definite location although there was some information on the location
of the homestead where the election was conducted. What surname are you
researching. I was looking for Washington Arnold Cooper & John Jordan
Cooper. Thanks, Max Cooper
