Probate Record of Benjamin Miles: an extraction
Marianna, Jackson Co Florida, April 20, 1858
Rebecca Miles, his wife, and eight children under twenty-one years of age, and two that are over that age, towit:  William Miles, Daniel Miles, Duncan Miles, Catherine Miles, Wright Miles, Hepsey Miles, Leonard Miles, and Nancy who is under the age of twenty-one but enter marriage with one Calvin Toole, and Mary who intermarried with John Toole, and Willoughby Miles who is over the age  of twenty-one years.

(I was first sent a copy of Benjamin Miles's probate record and I believed a page was missing. I went to Marianna, the county seat of Jackson Co, Florida to see the probate record for myself and I still believe a page is missing.)

Land Record

North 1/2 of SE 1/4 Section 5 Township 6 Range 12, about 80 acres.

On another paper this description: North half of the South East Quater of Section Five Township Six Range Twelve North and West .

I first started looking for the graves of Benjamin Miles and Rebecca Parker Miles in 1985. James and Fanny Ray Reeves sent me up the road, north of Spring Hill Church. Sandra High Johns McLin and I road everywhere looking. Up and down all the back roads between Spring Hill Church and Campbellton. Many times I went back to Jackson County and stayed at the home of Fanny Ray and James Reeves and we talked about the cemetery. I was told that Phillip Farris was the person responsible for pushing up the headstones. I called Mr. Watson on the phone early one Sunday morning and Mr. Watson said he did not know about a Cemetery on the Property (he had bought the property). It was a relief when I was told that June Miles had pushed the finding of the cemetery, through the County Com. meetings, and that the Cemetery was found.

Some of the information Ruth and I would like to know the source, and I am checking out that information. Which will be in future corrections of the "Miles Family History")

Willoughby Miles

Willoughby and S. Anne (Beman) MILES

Willoughby Miles was a tall, thin man. Willoughby had a beard in the picture and was a very pleasant man to look upon. According to the people in Jackson County, Florida, Willoughby had a falling out with his brother William   M. Miles. I have not been able to find out just what the argument was about.

William M. Miles was living in Walton County, Florida in 1880. There is a creek in Jackson Coounty, that in the late 1880's had a large area just right for swimming. This swimming hole was called the Willoughby   Hole. Since the creek ran through Willoughby Miles property we assume   this was the reason for the name. A descendant of Willoughby Miles came along and bought the propert and filled in the swinning area. Rains came and washed out most of the filled area, but alas, the deep hole was gone forever.

Willoughby J MILES, CSA married (1) S. Anne BEAMAN on 18 Jul 1865 at Jackson County, Florida. S., dau. of Emanuel Parker BEAMAN and Margaret GALLOWAY, born in Nov 1842 at N.C.; died in 1918 at Jackson Co., Fl.; buried at Spring Hill Ch., Jackson County, Fl..

Cencus: Jackson Co. Fl.1870-1910. Rand.Co. Ga. 1850.
