Marianna
Lowlands
The Marianna Lowland area could be compared to a very shallow saucer with
the edges occupied by the upland regions. It is one of the two areas of Florida
where limestone is found at the surface. The Marianna limestone is of the
Oligocene age. The largest commerical caverns open to the public in Florida
are found here.
Waddells Mill Pond Site
Waddells Mill Pond Site is seven miles northwest of Marianna. Prehistoric
Chatot village site. Excavations in 1959- 1960 revealed ceramics and chipped
stone artifacts of the Fort Walton Phase (Middle to Late Mississippian
Horizon).
