I attempted to contact one of the names listed as a contact for the Lupo family at the Jackson County, Florida GenWeb site and the message bounced. Do you update these addresses yourself, or is it the responsibility of the person who's listed to update his/her address when it changes?
I have some information on the Lupo family, members of whom lived in Jackson County, Florida for a time, but I'd like to correspond with someone who has more and possibly different information on these family members.
I thought the site looked great, though! I'm glad to see folks putting these records out on the 'net for those of us who can't afford to travel all over the country tracking down leads. :) Matt Lupo http://www.webcom.com/hamlet/genealogy/

Texas. My mother's maden name was Knowles. Her Grandmothers' name was Mary
Elizabeth Ariabella COX. I am new at Geneology, however, my mother has been

to the Civil War. We have Company Muster-in-Roll records for several of our
Knowles ansisters, however nothing on the Cox side. The name of Mary Elizabeth's
father was Samson Cox. Do you have anything on him, and is Dale A. Cox, who
wrote "The Battle of Marianna" decended from Samson Cox? I would appreciate

My g-g-grandfather lived in Jackson county Florida, William Anniston
ABERCROMBIE. He died during the Civil War along with his son, Peter
Floyd ABERCROMBIE. William' wife, Sarah E. BROWN ABERCROMBIE,
moved eventually to Barbour County Alabama. When she died in 1896 she was
buried in a small cemetary in Louisville, Alabama called EPHESUS.
Does the Ephesus Cemetary in Jackson county Florida have any ABERCROMBIE'S
or OLDS or BURNTIN'S buried there? Also, in the 1850 Jackson
County Census Sarah Abercrombie had a son, Joseph W. age 8 living in the
house that is not on the 1860 Census. Does anyone have any knowledge of Joseph
W. ABERCROMBIE?

I've been looking through the family tree page for information on my family,
the Rambo's. I came across your page, and found your listing of a
Rambo Community in Jackson County. Can you tell me what this means?
Is this a small town? I'm a little confused. If you could shed some light
on it for me, I'd really appreciate it. If there's any more info on it some
where, I'd appreciate knowing about that, too. Thanks, Kelley Rambo

Hi! I'm wondering if you can give me some information about a cemetery listed
on the WPA Veteran Graves Page. Cemetery #133 on this page is titled "Cook
and Beauchamp" and contains the graves of two people I have in my files:
Simon A. Beauchamp and Wm. Hardy Cook. Where is this cemetery
located? Is it just a family cemetery? I would love to know the whereabouts
and size of this cemetery, if you can "dig up" this information. Thanks,
Stephanie

From: White Dov3@aol.com
I am sorry but at this time I have none to send, but you can go to the Archives
and look at the Dawes and Miller Indian Rolls, other then that you would
have to search your Legal records in court houses as if looking where they
arrested and old drunk indian and gives the name in order to prove it, or
look at eh Census Records and see if they are liksted as Indian, many were
listed as Blacks and Malatto, as well s chinese. so it isn't easy to find
Indian familys, you would need to know where they cane from, what towns they
lived in and if the town was of Creek, Cherokee, or what ever the indian
may had beed, you have picked will, but it is very hard work to do this,
Best of luck on your Quest. I am of Cherokee, my husband is of Muskogee Creek,
he is from the Town of Cowea, but there is a lot to know and a lot to prove.
Thankfully we are that has proved it. White Dov3

Betty where are you in what area ? I am in North Flordia, there were the
upper Creeks and the Lower Creeks, which are called Muskogee, and Creeks
by the English for they lived by bodies of water or rivers. North Florida
, Georgia, and parts of Alamaba was the lower Creeks or Muskogee Tribes,
also know as the Friendly Creeks. In the indain removal many were allowed
to stay if they joined a church, that was the way the United states felt
no harm of the people, and many are Indians listed on the Church Rolls in
Ala. Ga. and North Florida. Also there is a list of the Indian towns in Florida
that tells how many were in that town, but gies only the Cheifs Name of the
town does tell about how many people were in thire village. Hope this
will also help. White Dov3
PS:
Betty also the Tready of 1790 is still in effect for all of us today, it was a tready made between the United States and the Creek Nation, many states are now admitting there was the Indian Creek Nation and that it is still existing today. It is still part of the Creek nation East of the Mississippi. White Dov3

CC: White Dov3@aol.comI'm replying to all, but I don't really know the question
.... but that never stopped me before. :)
The Family History Center here in Tallahassee has the books, Cherokee Roots 1 and 2, which is an index to the Indian Census rolls from Dawes and earlier (1818) forward to 1924. The FHC also has the microfilm roll for the first 5 or 6 rolls (up to 1850's or 70's??). The books tell you what number on which roll the person is listed at !! It's great. And the rolls sometime have notes about the family that give you additional information on where the whites came from or what they were doing there.

The 1860 census just posted on the Jackson Co. FL homepage shows ELIZABETH
DRUMMOND, 53 as head of household. Also listed are apparently her
children:
Della, 23
Virginia, 21
James, 20
Mary, 16
Elizabeth, 13
John, 11
Also shown in this household are ANN CLARKE, age 25 and MARY S. CLARKE, age 5.
I believe Ann may be the eldest daughter of Elizabeth and the widow of Ashley Clarke who died 1857. Mary S. Clarke would then be Mary Susie Clarke who m. William Roulhac Daffin. Has anyone any information that help me pin down this family?

I love every bit of the history so far, not that I haven't read it a few
times. Have you read James Parton's account of Andrew Jackson's life and
his trip down thru Georgia and Florida? It's really an authenic piece
of history and makes me so aware of AJ's contribution to our ancestors
tranquility and safety. I am of the Richards Family and my Father's
Mother was a Pelt. That was many eons ago. Joan Richards-Herndon
PS, Go to Amazon.com and ask them to look for these 3 volumes: The Life of Andrew Jackson by James Parton. These are hard to find and old volumes but the volume # 2 has all about AJ's trip to Florida and how mean the Indians were, etc. My 3 volumes cost 150.00 several years ago. People would have to go to a rare book store or use amazon.com to find the volumes. Joan Herndon

I wanted to take a minute to drop you a note and let you know I enjoyed visiting
your web-site.
I wanted to ask if there is an on-line site to get Marianna news. (We subscribe to the Jackson County Floridan from time to time, but the Post Office seems to lose a lot of the issues.) If you know of such a site, I'd appreciate hearing back from you.
I don't expect the Floridan to have an electronic version out there,
but thought you might know of a site (or one in the works).
I noticed you are a local historian. If it helps you place who this note is from, my grandparents were Hubert and Patti Duckworth, the latter a long-time math teacher at Marianna High and both were active in local affairs from the early 1930s on. My mother was Frances Duckworth (Marianna High '43) and my father Cliff Stanley (Marianna High '44).
I'm in North Carolina now, but of course retain a fondness for the town and its people. Thanks, Cliff Stanley 919-558-8782, ext 208 qyz@nccibm1.bitnet

There is a little cemetery in a small town where my grandfather's first two
wives & first mother- in-law are buried. The last time we stopped there,
they had set up a simple mailbox in the cemetery with a guest sign-in sheet
where you could record your address and who you were related to. I believe
they also had a listing of graves in it which would be helpful to those who
had not been there before.
It wouldn't necessarily have to be done by the caretaker-- the local gen society could furnish that. Judy Busch in Texas (I like this idea) bjs

My name is Suzanne Huckaby. I live in Vidalia,Ga. My ancestors, Christian
Jacob Staley and his family all lived in Jackson Co. Florida from
1858 to 1873. I have written for and received deeds where they lived. There
dwelling was on S.W.1/4 OF N.E.1/4 OF SECTION 18 TOWNSHIP 3 RANGE 9 N.W.
They also had some lots around that one. I know that Christian Jacob Bdied there in July,1869. I know he was buried there also. Family legend says that he was buried on the property. Also his son Alexis C.Staley died there around 1871. I beleive he his buried there also. They had two daughters under the age of 10 that died during the Civil War. I believe they are buried there also. I was wondering if any one has found these graves. I would sure love to know. If this would help Christian, his sons Albert Milton, John Fletcher, and Alexis C.Staley were all in the Civil War and enlisted there in Marianna, Florida. If you have any information on the graves of Christian and his son. I would appreciate it if you could share it with me. Thank you so much. Suzanne Huckaby

I was very pleased to see your lineage of the Miles family! I have
a little bit of updating for you, however. I'm a Grandchild of Doshie
Miles, #100, Daughter of Daniel Joseph (Jody) Miles. She did
marry Horace T Bledsoe, the spelling you have is incorrect as Bledsole.
I stumbled across your website while searching for my mothers ancestors, who also come from Graceville. Luther Smith I believe is my Great Grandfather. From what I have been able to find out, he married Mary L. Bevis on Dec 19, 1895. That I got from the net. If you know of anyway I could gather further info, I would be truly grateful! I am specifically looking to confirm if Luther had any children, if so, was there a son named Milton Lee Smith?
