I am wondering if someone can tell me the relationship between Marmaduk B. (M.B.) Pender & John Pinkney King. M.B. Pender and John P. King are what appears to be partners in a land transaction in Jackson Co. in 1853. Also M.B. Pender was named as a executor in John P. Kings will. Thank You, Betty

I believe that the only male Ziegler (spelled several ways on documents) in the family died of pneumonia in 1870 when he was 35 years old. His daughter was a small child at the time. His widow Mary Ann Stephens Ziegler (daughter of Samuel Barron Stephens) had a boarding house in 1880. The daughter is listed as Carrie. I believe that the Carrie Ziegler is the Caroline Ziegler that married Charles Joseph Huber. I have Charles and his family on the 1910 Census.

Subj: William George Ferguson
Date: 98-05-15
From: lindaboyd@mindspring.com (Linda Boyd)
I have been looking for the parents of my William George Ferguson (~1811-1879) and have found nothing. I have that he died in Jackson County, FL.

Several members of my family have been searching for years for information on William George Ferguson - particularly his parentage. Much of this is from the *inherited' research. We have no idea where it came from but suspect it might be from an oral history. Vague statement such as 'some records' and 'the orginal Scottsman' are from this research. Here's the little we have:

William George FERGUSON b. 1811 in Chester County, SC m. Hannah Louisa CONN in 1843 in Chester County, SC d. Jan. 8, 1879 in Jackson County, FL

Children:
John Tyler Ferguson - b. Aug 11, 1825, Chester County, SC - d. Nov 25, 1912, Sumter County, GA

James Henry Ferguson - b. Dec 16, 1847, Jackson County, FL - d. Aug 8, 1919, Malone, Jackson County, FL

Edward Stanley Ferguson - b. Jan 5, 1850, Two Egg, Jackson Co., FL - d. Apr 10, 1924, De Soto, Sumter County, GA

Charles Cecil Ferguson - b. Mar 11, 1852, Jackson County, FL - d. Sep 3, 1945, Oktibbeha County, Miss.

Mary Elizabeth Ferguson - b. Aug 1854, Jackson County, FL - d. 1932, Panama City, Bay County, FL

Eliza A. Ferguson - b. 1856, Jackson County, FL - d. ???

Nancy M. Ferguson - b. Dec 27, 1858, Jackson County, FL - d. Feb 3, 1892, Oktibbeha County, Miss.

Andrew Baily Ferguson - b. 1864, Chester County, SC - d. ???

According to the research of Beth Ferguson Usry, William George was born in North Carolina. (There are *some records* that say he was born in 1815, and one great granddaughter thinks it was 1825, but 1860 Jackson County Florida census has him listed at 49 years old.) He is buried in Stephens Cemetery near the Florida/Alabama line. (The cemetery has not been found.) William George Ferguson's grandfather was the *original Scottsman,* settling in North Carolina where he reared a large family of sons and daughters. William George was a farmer and served quite a period as a government Indian agent in Florida. He and his wife, Hannah, migrated with baby John Tyler Ferguson in 1846. They came down the Chatahoochee by boat and got off at Neil's Landing. They settled around what is now Highway 2, east of Mount Olive Church. The Coonrods, Grants, McAnulty, and Granburys all migrated from Chester, SC with the Fergusons. On November 6, 1858 William George has listed a US Land Patent for 80.6 acres, also a tract containing 200.15 acres, also a US Land Patent no date, Jackson County Florida. The 1860 census had all children listed at home.

As you can see, we have some information but it's sketchy at best. Unfortunately, no one currently doing research has the original research as it was lost or destroyed when the woman died many years ago.  We also have a little of the same type information on a few of the sons. If you're interested in getting it, I'd be happy to share. ANY information on William George, especially his parents, would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks for any help, Linda

Subj: BAXTER and TIDWELL
Date: 98-05-14
From: mbaxter@blue.weeg.uiowa.edu (m. baxter)
I am kind of working backwards in tracing my genealogy. I am pretty sure that my great great grandfather was James E. BAXTER who was married to Mary TIDWELL and Caroline TIDWELL (around 1871) in Jackson County. My problem BAXTER is that Idon't know where the family went from there. Supposedly James had a son by one of his wives named John G. BAXTER. Also, I need more information on Mary TIDWELL and her sister Caroline TIDWELL. According to the published 1870 census the BAXTER family were not living in Jackson county then, but I did find them in the 1850 and 1860 census. Is there anyone who knows more about the BAXTER family and where they went? I would appreciate any information that could be given.

Subj: STEPHENS/DYKES
Date: 98-05-04
From: lackey@dbtech.net (Lackey Stephens)
I am still in a desparate search for JESSE STEPHENS, b. 1801, Burke County, Georgia. Married MARY (POLLY) DYKES, b. 1803, South Carolina. They married in Laurens County, Ga. in 1821. Jesse and Polly moved first to Gadsden Co. and in 1850 to Jackson County. They are last seen on the 1860 census.Problem is making the connection of POLLY DYKES STEPHENS and other DYKES families in the area. JESSE and POLLY'S son JESSE STEPHENS, JR. married AMANDA JOHNSON and is found in his parents home in 1860 and living independently with AMANDA JOHNSON STEPHENS on the 1870 census. I feel that JESSE and POLLY STEPHENS moved to Jackson County to be located closer to POLLY'S family. However I have not been able to get a solid connection to this speculation. There were DYKES living with STEPHENS and STEPHENS living with DYKES on census data. Hope someone can help me solve this problem. I have lots of STEPHENS and DYKES info and will be happy to share. Thanks, Lackey Stephens
