I am trying to trace a branch of the BYRD family of North Carolina. Benjamin BYRD left North Carolina about 1825 and went to Leon County Florida. Sometime in the 1850's he left Florida for Polk County, Texas. The 1870 census shows him living with his son, Green B. BYRD, with Livingston as his Post Office.

He probably died in Polk County. In 1880 and 1900, Green B. BYRD was enumerated in San Jacinto, Texas where he served as Clerk of District Court. In 1910, Green B. BYRD's wife, Hallie, was recorded living with a daughter, Hallie BALKUM in Houston, Harris County, Texas. In 1920, Hallie BALKUM's son, James Whitney BALKUM, was shown in Houston, Harris County, Texas. Benjamin BYRD married Mary BURNEY and their children were: Arthur BURNEY, *Green B. BYRD, Nathan, Isham, Benjamin, and Mary E. BYRD. *Green B. BYRD married Hallie ????? and their children were: **Hallie and Bennet BYRD. **Hallie BYRD married ????? Balkum and their children were: Birdie and ***James Whitney BALKUM. ***James Whitney BALKUM married Patti ?????

If any of Benjamin BYRD's children left descendents in Leon County, Florida, I would like to exchange information. Contact: Richard V. Byrd, 506 Stuart Ct., Savannah, GA 31405.

I am seeking information on several BRADEN family members who settled in the Tallahassee area. Hector Wright BRADEN bought land in Leon Co. as early as July 1826 & may have been in the area earlier. Family stories state that he died during the hurricane of 14 Oct 1846. I would like to confirm this.

Hector's brother William Fenton BRADEN died in Tallahassee on 1 June 1832. Their brother, Joseph Addison BRADEN was in Tallahassee by about 1834. He married Virginia WARD, a daughter of a prominent Tallahassee family. He & Virginia moved to the area that is now Bradenton, but may have returned to Leon Co. after they lost their plantation ca 1857. I believe Joseph may have died 7 Feb 1859, but would like to confirm this. He & Virginia had several children. Seeking info on them, too.

Finally, a sister of the above 3 brothers, Elizabeth Wright BRADEN married Fleming HIXON (or Flemmon HIXSON) and they also had land in the Leon Co. area. May also have been near a town called St. Joseph. Elizabeth died aboard a ship & was "buried in the Tortugas" according to a family story. Fleming was dead by 13 Sept 1841 when his will was probated. They had a daughter, Betty. Seeking any information on this family. Have some original documents to share. Thanks

I am researching William "Buck" Leroy DICKERSON, who married Lucinda CREEL in Leon County in Feb. 1834. I believe his father is John DICKERSON as listed on the 1825 state census records of Leon County. There were 3 possible brothers and 2 sisters also on that list. William and Lucinda had three children born in Leon County, Cynthia, Thomas Jordan and James Leonard before leaving Florida and going to Texas in 1839. Their family settled in San Augustine County, TX. Hoping to find someone with some knowledge of the DICKERSON or CREEL families of Leon County in the time frame of 1820 - 1850.
