James Groves Sr.

James Groves Sr. was born March 2, 1780 in
North Carolina, and
died July 12, 1856
in Louisiana. He was a Pvt. in Capt. John K. Goff's
Company of Col. DeClouet's Regiment of
Louisiana Militia. His service
from September 28, 1814 to March 31, 1815 was at English Turn on the
Mississippi River, and at a camp near the Cresent City (Chalmette
Battlefield) where he was a participant in the Battle of New
Orleans. A
USD 1812 Memorial Marker was erected and ceremony held on October
26, 1974, at the Glass Window Cemetery in
Vernon Parish, Louisiana,
where he is buried.
James Groves married ca 1800 to Mary Nash who was born 6
June 1781
in Mississippi, died 14 September 1855 in Louisiana, and
is buried at the
Glass Window Cemetery. James and Mary
Groves had two known children:
James Jr. who married Nancy Perkins; and Emily who married
James Bass.
They
also adopted a brother-in-law's child, Elizabeth Burgess when her
parents died.
