Smith Hurd

 Smith Hurd was born January 5, 1783 in Colebrook Twp, Litchfield County, Connecticut, son of Seth and Thankfull (Ray) Hurd, and died after 4 August 1875 in Southington, Trumbull County, Ohio.  He was buried in the Center Cemetery, Southington, Trumbull, Ohio.   Smith served as Corporal with Captain Elihia Morse's Company of Ohio Militia from 24 August 1812 to 5 September 1812.  He was discharged 5 September 1812 by General Washworth.  He was allowed fifty-five miles for travel.

Smith Hurd married Sybil Moorehouse about 1806.  She was born 23 January 1785 in Harwinton Twp, Litchfield County, Connecticut and died 5 January 1851 in Southington, Trumbull County, Ohio.  They had nine children; Damaris, Milo, Hiram, Daniel, Diana, Dianthea, Hanna, Malone and Nancy.   Smith Hurd's second wife was Mary “Polly” White Ulpp who he married 23 May 1858 in Trumbull County, Ohio.  Smith Hurd's first child, Damaris Hurd  married Ira Viets 1 February 1829.
