Martin County, FL Lookups

        Stuart News Obituaries!!!

The Archives Committe of the Martin County Genealogical Society (MCGS) is preparing an index of the obituaries in the Stuart News begining in 1915.  This index will contain a list of the deceased individuals and the date the obit appeared in the Stuart News.  A researcher can then go to the microfilm of the newspaper (they are all at the Blake Library) to view and/or copy the full content of the obituary.  This is a tremendous undertaking of the MCGS Archives Committee and will take several years to complete, but will be a wonderful addition to our library collection.  If you would like to participate in this endeavor, or if you need one of our members to conduct a lookup for you, please contact Paul Beall, Chairperson, or (772) 692-2609.

Martin County needs volunteers to assist visitors by "looking up" genealogical information.  If you have any reference material of general interest to the county - public records, items from your own family files, or materials published before 1921 (copyrights expired) - and are willing to do limited lookups for others, please e-mail me so your name and reference material may be listed on this page.

If you are requesting a lookup from a volunteer, please follow these guidelines:

        1. Put the name of the reference you are requesting in your message as the volunteer may have several references available, some of which you may have already researched.
        2. Limit your request to one or two specific names (or places) with approximate dates.
        3. Don't forget to thank the volunteer for their time and effort!

Copyrights are a concern for all who do research.  Proper attention to copyright issues and laws are important for anyone who provides lookups.  Volunteers are also asked to review the copyright issues and to acquire permission from copyright owners when possible.  Please review this copyright reference before asking a volunteer to do a lookup for you. . Please send your lookup request to the individual volunteer listed for the resource.  If you send it to me and I am not the volunteer listed for the resource, I will forward it on to the person listed - a waste of your time and mine.  One more item - when requesting lookups, please be courteous and limit your requests to no more than one or two items per request.  Thank you.

A Small Reminder --- We NEED lookup volunteers.
Please e-mail me if you have any Martin County (or Florida State) resources
and you are willing to volunteer your time to do lookups for others.
