Cemetery Project

We are truly proud of our Cemetery Project Committee, chaired by Walt Bruetsch
(and his predecessor, Doug Poulter), for the monumental work that has been
accomplished on this project, which has been ongoing since 1996. Basically, the project involves the recording of all tombstones and memorials found in the 14 known cemeteries of Martin County, FL. Since the project began, it has been expanded to include several columbariums and memorial gardens that contain burial references.
To date, four (4) of these are known to exist.
As of Jun 2001, ten (10) cemeteries and one columbarium have been completed. Fern Hill Old Section Cemetery was entered into the database in Jun 2006. A list of the cemeteries and columbariums currently involved in the project is shown below. Those completed and/or in progress, and searchable from this website, are indicated by a link to the online database. It is suggested that the viewer first identify the surname of interest from the Master Index, then select the specific cemetery (or columbarium) in which the surname can be found. Each cemetery is identified by a three-digit number (see table below).
Please make note of the following specific considerations regarding the presentation of certain cemetery and/or columbarium data:
For information regarding other cemeteries of the Treasure Coast area, the researcher may also wish to search records (including those of the MCGS Cemetery Project) by accessing the Martin County, FL USGenWeb site (an ongoing County section under the State of Florida section of the USGenWeb Project). The USGenWeb, a nationwide project, also includes searchable Tombstone Transcription Projects to which the MCGS cemetery data may ultimately be submitted.
