Martin County Genealogical Society, Inc.

About Our Society

Martin County Genealogical Society, Inc. is a nonprofit organization within the definition of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, dedicated to the advancement, education, and promotion of personal and general genealogical research and the preservation of historical records relative thereto for the enrichment of the people of Martin County, Florida and the surrounding areas. MCGS was organized in 1988; members meet monthly, and have established a fund to provide books for the Martin County Library. In 1996, the members voted to become a nonprofit corporation and we now have over 100 members participating in many community-oriented activities. The primary functions of the organization are:

Create and foster interest in genealogical research.
Collect, record, and publish genealogical information that may be useful to aid individuals in their genealogical research and in compiling their family histories.
Collect, record, and publish genealogical informaton that may be useful to family historians, libraries, and researchers. Click here for more information About Our Library, The Blake Library of Martin County.
Publish a periodical journal or newsletter for its members and the public.
Join with, assist, and/or cooperate with other organizations to promote and advance the cause of genealogical and historical research.
Preserve the heritage, history, and genealogy of Martin County and such other counties whose data may be relative.

Meetings are open to the public and usually held on the third Friday of each month at 1:00 pm at one of the facilities of the Martin County Library System. Please link to "Meetings" for specific location information each month. Plenty of free parking is available. The monthly programs offered at each meeting are varied, unique, and informative. The meetings begin with a short business meeting, followed by a social gathering - time for enjoying a cup of punch, some cookies, sharing research, or just chatting with other members, and concluding with a program/speaker.

Membership Information

Membership in MCGS with voting rights, and the right to hold office, is open to anyone without restriction of race, color, creed, or sex who has a continuing interest in genealogy and whose membership dues are current. MCGS membership represents researchers at all levels of proficiency, from beginners to semi-professionals. Family history research is the third fastest-growing hobby (after stamps and coins) in America today. MCGS encourages family membership and family members of all ages are welcome.

Our current membership year runs from January to December. Individual $20.00/year; Family (2 individuals) $25.00/year; Individual Life $150/year; Family Life (2 individuals) $200/year. Our quarterly newsletter is included with each membership.

If you or a member of your family are interested in becoming members of MCGS, we invite you to attend one of our meetings as our guest. Should you be unable to attend a meeting, but would still like to join MCGS, membership application forms are available at our meetings, in the Genealogy Room at the Blake Library, and online for you to print and mail, together with your check or money order, to: Treasurer, Martin County Genealogical Society, Inc., P.O.
