Florida History Room at the Manatee Central Library

The Florida History room at the Manatee County Central Library houses a collection of over 32,000 historic negatives. In 2003 these negatives were sent to USF Tampa for scanning and digitization. The funding for this project has been provided by the Library Foundation. Library staff has been doing the data entry, including names, dates and subject headings. The Library is seeking volunteers to help with this data entry. Anyone  including seniors who are comfortable using a computer are welcomed. It's a terrific job, looking at old pictures and typing in some information. If you're interested, please contact Ericka Dow at the library. 941-748-5555.
Volunteers in the Genealogy Department - Manatee Central Library.

The genealogy department is located on the second floor of the library just to the right as you leave the elevator.  We need volunteers to:

  • Reshelve the books.
  • Assist fellow researchers.

Check with the reference librarians or sign up at our next MGS general meeting.

Obituary Committee

Ruby Young is the chair of this committee responsible for clipping and mounting the obituaries from the Bradenton Herald on a daily basis.  Sign up for a week at a time, and then file the cards at the Historical Records Library.  Sign up at the next MGS general meeting.
