This project was started by Pat Parrish, and Judith H. Kelley of the Pasco County Genealogy Society about the year 2000. When they started answering enquires from people wanting information about their families. They thought it would be a good idea to start indexing the Births, Deaths, and Marriages in the Dade City Banner. They worked on it together for about seven years, and completed from 1913 to 1923, pretty much by themselves. They finally got about two or three more members to help them. It was not an easy a project before the Dade City Banner was digitized, and put on CDs by Angelo, the Head Librarian of the Hugh Embry Library of Dade City. He has garnered all the known copies of the newspapers from 11 Sep 1914 to 30 Nov 2006. But he is still looking for missing issues, and pages, and parts of pages. If anybody knows of where any copies of the Dade City Banner newspaper are stored, please let Angelo know. If anyone want to contribute for this digitizing project see Angelo Liranzo, or Glenn Thompson of the Friends of the Library, and The Pasco County Historical Society. Both these organizations should be thanked many times over for the work they have done in collecting and digitizing this newspaper. The digitizing is being done by University of Florida. The phase one was the microfiche (1914 - 1947) digitizing. The phase two was 16-mm film (1948 - 1970) digitizing. The phase three is 35-mm film (1971 - 1996) digitizing. The phase four is the Newspaper Book (1997 - 2006) digitizing. A final ongoing phase is to find, and replace all the missing issues, pages, and parts of pages of the Dade City Banner and its predecessor the Dade City Star. And to finish the indexing of them!! If anybody wants help with indexing project contact the Reg Thompson of the Pasco County Genealogical Society.
The Dade City Banner was established on 27 Aug 1913, by John Tippen the first editor. On 9 Oct 1915 the Dade City Banner was consolidated with the Dade City Star. The newspaper covered all of East, and Central Pasco County, including the towns of Blanton, Dade City, Land-o-Lakes, Richland, Ridge Manor, San Antonio, Trilby, Gator (Wesley Chapel), and, Zephyrhills. There are several missing years, and parts of years. They are part of 1913, part of 1914, all of 1929, all of 1930, all of 1948, part of 1949, and part of 1964, part of 1965, all of 1966, all of 1968, 1969, part of 1970, and many missing pages.
