Meetings

Pinellas County Cemeteries
At our February meeting Lesleigh Butts introduced part of her videotape of Pinellas county cemeteries. These tapes, narrated by Lesleigh and filmed by camerawoman Ann Cantlin, provide a walking tour of local cemeteries as well as a historical narrative. The next installment of this series will be shown at the May meeting. Thanks Lesleigh and Ann. It was an informative and creative project and a great addition to our local history.

THE 2002 CALENDAR
All meetings begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Jenkins auditorium in the Largo Public Library. Guests are warmly welcomed and encouraged to attend.

Bette Hostetler: Volunteer of the Year
Congratulations to Bette Hostetler who was awarded the Library Volunteer of the Year at the annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon held Feb. 19th at the Largo Cultural Center. This luncheon featured an excellent Chinese buffet provided from Orange Blossom Catering. Library Director Barbara Murphey and Mayor Robert Jackson praised the dedication of all the volunteers at the library. The entire staff of the library is appreciative of their hard work.
THE 1930 CENSUS IS COMING!!!
Pinellas Public Library Co-operative has approved our grant request for $30,000 to purchase the 1930 Federal Population Census!! We are on the waiting list at ProQuest and anticipate receiving the films after the first of April.
From Pauline’s Desk…
At the annual genealogy seminar last month at the LDS church someone left a light blue nylon jacket and a dark blue nylon lunch box. Please see Pauline in the PGS office if they belong to you.
Computers In Genealogy
The Computer Interest Group is a forum for genealogists to discuss computer programs, Internet discoveries and solutions to problems. The CIG meetings are held on the 3rd Saturday of each month, following the regular PGS meetings, about 12:00pm, in the lobby -- Jenkins Room. Guests are welcomed—hurry in – seats fill up fast!! PGS Quarterly needs you!
If you have queries, please turn them in to Bob Raup or to the Volunteer Desk for inclusion in the next issue of The Pinellas Genealogist. Remember, this issue will be mailed out all over the country!  The Editor would also appreciate stories of your research trips and reviews of printed or computerized genealogy materials. Naturally, Pinellas County material is always needed. Thank you for your continued support of our quarterly!
News from Special Collections
• When calling the Largo Library with questions relating to genealogy, please use the number for the Genealogy Help Desk: 586-7410.
• Please do not re-shelve books or return other materials. Our volunteers count each item returned as a statistic. These counts help us to determine our peak times for service and areas of high demand. Thank you!
• Please continue to bring in flyers or brochures about libraries you visit this year. Thanks!
• When using the microfilm, please rewind the film before returning it to its box. Please do not remove the take-up reel; this will only leave the film in an upside-down and backwards state!
LOOK!
We have added some new CD ROMS this month. From Heritage Quest we have the World Immigration Series which extracts from the 1870 census all entries for highlighted ethnic groups. We have acquired the German, Canadian, Irish, and European (includes Switzerland, Holland, Bohemia, Austria, Italy, Poland, Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Russia and Hungary).

Also new is the 1910 New York City and Upstate New York Federal Census Index on CD ROM. ACD 0063 and ACD 0070.

From The Church of the Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints we have ordered the 25 disc Pedigree Resource File. This new set contains lineage-linked pedigrees (including notes and sources) that have been submitted to the Family History Library.

New to the PGS webpage is the Bussey Funeral Home Records 22 May 1895 through 23 February 1910. Transcription work performed by Gladys Evan. View the records at www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~flpgs/PGS-BusseyFHR-p1.html.
