18 Jan: Chris Kelly, President of the Roser Park Neighborhood Association, will talk about the Greenwood Cemetery restoration efforts.

15 Feb: Member Interactive Workshop 15 Mar: Don Ivey, curator, will talk about the Holdings at the Heritage Museum and Archives
19 Apr: Kay Holley, of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, will speak about the holdings of UDC and model, display and explain reasons for clothing design of the 1800's 17 May: Scott Taylor Hartzell is a freelance writer for the St. Petersburg Times and author of St. Petersburg: An Oral History.  Scott will talk about his methodology and techniques used to research people for his book and Times articles.

21 June: Kay Turansky will talk about Personal Life History Writing.  Handouts will be provided at $2.00 each at the meeting.
28 June: PGS Annual Picnic - Largo Central Park - 9AM to 1PM - Shelter #1
19 July: Jay B. Starkey, Jr. will talk about the Starkey's, one of the pioneer families of Pinellas County.  Included will be a short TV interview done by Channel 18 of J. B., Sr. and his wife. 16 Aug: Debbe Hagner, current President of the West Pasco Genealogy Society, and a certified genealogist, will discuss what to do about "brick walls".  You may submit questions or problems to Gladys Evan of the PGS in advance of the meeting.

All meetings begin at 11:00 AM ET in the Jenkins auditorium in the Largo Public Library. Guests are warmly welcomed and encouraged to attend.
The Computer Interest Group meets at 9:45 AM before the general meeting in the Jenkins auditorium in the Largo Library.

Classes for 2003

Family Tree Maker (FTM) enthusiasts meet monthly October through May at 10:00 AM in the Jenkins Assembly Conference Room in the lobby of the Largo Library. Each session lasts approximately two hours.

During the Family Tree Maker workshop for Saturday, January 3, the group will continue pursuit of conquering the basics by exploring the FTM Frequently Asked Questions on both the software program and the web site. There will be further discussion of the uses of digital photography and Optical Character Recognition (OCR).

There is no fee for this workshop, but donations to the Greater Largo Library Foundation for support of the New Library Building Fund are appreciated.

FTM meeting dates this year (2003) are: 4 Jan; 1 Feb; 1 Mar; 5 Apr; 3 May; 4 Oct; 1 Nov; 6 Dec.  Meetings in 2004 are: 3 Jan.

For the remainder of the 2003-2004 season, Bette Raup will lead the Beginners' Study Group in the following discussions:
  • 10 January - Cemetery Exploration and Cemetery Records;
  • 14 February - Military Records;
  • 13 March - What has not been covered during the preceding sessions.

Meeting dates for the 2003-2004 season are scheduled for: 11 Oct; 8 Nov; 13 Dec; 10 Jan; 14 Feb; and 13 Mar.

The Computer Interest Group (CIG) or Computers in Genealogy group, meets at 9:45 A.M. in the Jenkins Assembly Conference Room on the third Saturday of each month just before the regular PGS meeting throughout the year. This forum is an informal discussion group in a question and answer format on anything related to the use of computers in genealogy. Typical subjects include: new websites, email problems, using digital cameras, scanners, downloading files and finding them on your computer, genealogy software programs, etc. There is no fee and all levels of computer expertise are welcome. If you would like more information or would like to become a member of the e-mail discussion list, please contact Bob Bryan.
